This was a brilliant chub rod. Mine met a unfortunate end as i was in a rush having sold a rod on ebay tht needed packaging and sending out. Grabbed the first tube in the cupboard cut it down to size only to find this poor rod was in the tube and was now a 7 piece. Not had a rod as good for chub...
Thanks chaps, they sound spot on for what i need them for. For the price think i’ll take a punt and get one for my barbel rod and possibly one for my stalker / floater rod.
Fancy a new reel and having spent all my life using daiwa and shimano reels, feel the quality lately is definitely not what it used to be. I was looking online ans saw the okuma pulzar reels. The 4000 looks like the ideal size with me and has a baitrunner plus is only £45. Anyone use these...
Brought a couple of second hand drennan rods. To stop the missus seeing them left them in the cardboard tube and put them in the cupboard. Then sold a couple of rods and grabbed a tube (i had a few), measured it and cut it down for the rods i was selling. Was surprised how hard it was to cut...
How big a bait would you be using for Pike? I have a set of 11 foot, 2.5lb harrison baby ballista that i had made. Have used them in the past happily for barbel on a flooded river, when fishing for carp up to 48lb in my local water). I’m sure they could handle reasonable sized deadbaits up to...
Shimano aero 4000 fa feeder reel. Use mine on the chub rod. Did buy it for barbel but get it was a bit small for that for some reason but fits perfectly on my chub rod.
I know i really regret selling my torrix Bob did me. However have a 4 piece avon he did which is my go to rod for most things now as it fits on a shelf in my van. Will never sell that one!
Does any other rod builder have the ability Bob had to add the hardwood sections at the end of the cork? Loved that on my torrix he built me years ago. Always meant to get another built before he retired just never got round to it. Haven’t seen it anywhere else.
Oooh I like that. Have always wanted a chub rod like that on a Harrison blank. Didn’t know they could put in the spliced 2oz tip as that’s all I use for chub. Going to have a clear out soon as I’m moving house might have a mass sell of unused bits and get one of these on order. Should be ready...
I got a second set of scopes for the odd day trip carping. Used them the other week and have to say I generally hate Nash stuff with a passion. However I really liked the rods. Got the 9 foot 2.75. Any heavier I think it’s silly but I didn’t trust the lighter ones hit and hold with fish up to...
What sort of price are Maui Jim’s? I’ve got some costa so I’m guessing they’re similar price to what I paid for them. Would there be much difference between Maui Jim and Costa. The main problem with my costas is after 3-4 hours they start to hurt between my ear and my head. So after something as...
Most shimano reels made in Japan make good money. Wish I hadn’t sold my unused xtea 5000 for £50 years ago however personally didn’t like it felt much too heavy for my rod. Fox Kevlar rod mine went for nearly £300 on eBay. Daiwa ss3000 reels, even the rereleased ones are going for silly money now.
The 4 piece Harrison’s are lovely rods. Brought an unused one off here a few years ago and as it fits perfectly on the top shelf in my van it’s my go to rod as it lives in there. Lovely through action on it.
Sounds a nice build. Light rings on a hi-s are perfect. I brought some second hand 3lb hi-s rods that were built with a 50mm s lite ring set and it just didn’t feel right, they were way too heavy and big for the blank. Sold them and got a set of baby ballistas made up with 30mm Fuji k series...
