I don't think I have proof of ownership of any of my gear, excluding a couple rods brought off Harris Sportsmail (email receipts). Does that mean if I ever come to sell it people shouldn't buy from me? I think buying a car is a world away from a second hand rod....
You could easily microchip a cork handle using the same chips as used in pets. As far as putting them into the actual fibre fabric, it probably one wouldn't be practical, and two the chips would probably be destroyed in the curing process. It would also be better to have a post-purchase...

Thank you for the reply Karl. Yes it's a 13 metre pole. It doesn't sag a great deal at all and isn't too heavy at full length. I think I might risk it :) Certainly easier than buying another pole....

I've done my share of sea fishing the last couple of years, having being living in Portsmouth. I'm yet to see any damage from using break away leads. I wouldn't (and don't) hestitate in using them on the Severn in flood conditions when needed.
