    Its four in the morning..

Neil, A country and western song by Faron Young. It reached no 3 in the UK in 1971. Showing my age again!! Dave

    Floats

Would certainly be interested in those ‘big floats’, they look the mut’s nuts! Dave

Whats this i see in the bristol avon 😁

Neil, Given that beavers were once native to this country, in what way do you think that our countryside may not be viable in supporting them? Is that because of the intensive farming, population growth, pollution or some other reason? Dave

    Threads about "furry animals etc"

Fully agree. Apart from anything else, such threads tend to become monsters, which can’t make life easy for the admin team. Dave

    Records list updated

Bit worried about the capture date for the Worc Stour fish. 23 March 2021. Some mistake surely!

    Angling Trust

Worth adding your support too. Just complete your email address and submit. Only takes a few seconds and the more that do, the more weight behind the proposal for the Government to take note of.

    Precision Angling Poncho

Rob, What are the end tackle and components that you want to clear? Dave

    Fishing officially permitted

Stretching a point there, Jon. According to Google, I can get from my house to Ringwood in 17 minutes but I would not call that local to me, just outside Southampton. It is fairly clear from the Government COVID regulations that local is meant to mean within a short distance from your home, as...

    Fishing officially permitted

Other side of town from me Jon, so a non starter. Dave

    Fishing officially permitted

Well, we obviously now know that local is less than 5 miles in the eyes of the police... As I live near Southampton, I shan’t be fishing the HA or the Dorset Stour until the lockdown is relaxed but can still fish a couple of lakes and a stretch of a small river that are within a mile of my...

    Fishing officially permitted

Thanks for that Rob. Unfortunately, I can’t see your idea catching on as there are too many selfish individuals in our sport who would never give up their pastime for the greater good. Don’t forget that to some, COVID is a hoax so why should they be bothered..... Society today, eh☹️☹️

    Close season

Plenty of natural food available in most rivers, including fry and minnows which undoubtedly form part of the barbel’s diet in the spring. Dave

    Fishing officially permitted

Not sure what the golfers will make of this move by the Govt. Arguably, an 18 hole round of golf is far more exercise than most anglers achieve - particularly those with their car parked next to the swim they are fishing - and I can see a major backlash coming, particularly if some interpret...

    mortimer & whitehouse gone fishing

For those of you who aren’t already aware, there is an hour long Christmas special on BBC2 on Sunday 13 December at 20:10. Fishing on the Esk and Tees plus a chat with Chris Rea. Can’t wait although I know some of you aren’t fans! Dave

    SAD REALISATION

I think there has been a general decline in the use of forums. The more youthful anglers tend to use social media, especially Facebook, whereas many of us river anglers are now more ‘mature’ and a signifivcant number don’t bother with Internet forums. Being Southampton based, I fish the HA and...

Pet flea treatments and water pollution

Another one to add to the ever growing list of pollutants finding their way into our rivers. Shocking! It really is no surprise that so many of our rivers fail the basic water quality tests and without effective government action, there is no real hope of matters getting any better..... Dave

    Hello.

Welcome on board, Simon. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of useful information and tips on here from our very helpful community of dedicated barbel enthusiasts. Feel free to ask questions, on the appropriate threads, and keep an eye on the river reports for news and catches from your local waters...

    The state of our rivers

Can’t see the Angling Trust supporting that idea - they derive a significant chunk of their income from rod licence revenues! Still a good idea though, but it would need to be very well supported to have any real impact. Dave

    Angling mail

I gave up reading the weeklies years ago and CAT when it changed from being a good quality all round magazine, that wasn’t carp dominated into the product promotion vehicle that it later became. I now subscribe to Catch Cult and have to say that it is the best angling magazine that I have read...
