    river reports

Paul, After a quick check it appears that you are correct so far as the filming is concerned. However, the photographer has to have your permission to publish the mage/film and he should not therefore have posted it on FB without first gaining your permission. Dave

    river reports

Paul, What makes you think that a stranger has the “right” to film you. As far as I am aware, nobody has the right to film or take photos of you without your permission, even outdoors. Indeed, you have the right to ask that any such film or photo should be deleted if you have not given your...

    river reports

Of course, part of the secrecy problem could be publicity bans by clubs/syndicates In respect of the waters they control. The middle HA syndicate that I am fortunate enough to have been a member of since its inception, has a no publicity requirement. That doesn’t stop members from reporting...

    SONIK Specialist Barbel

I bought a Sonik 12’ 1.75tc barbel rod from AD when it was on offer a few years ago and although it has not had any tussles with barbel, I can certainly vouch for its playing action and power thanks to the nuisance pike that seem to take a liking to my legered meat baits. 😡 A pleasure to use...

    Ticket price increase.

Very true Neil, although I think you’ll find that inflation linking of rents has been around got quite a while now. Demographics is another increasingly significant factor, as highlighted by Ian Sewter earlier. Club memberships are declining (apart from the pandemic period) and that means that...

    Ticket price increase.

As I see it, the main problem here is that members don’t like increases in club subscriptions. Having attended many AGMs over the years, it still amazes me how an increase in subs engenders a heated debate and is often voted down by the membership, even when the amount involved is less than the...

    VERY Waterproof jacket

Simon, Sounds like quality gear that’s ideal for its stated purpose but I’m just not sure that Hi vis is the way to go for most people on the banks. Dave

    Red Lion up for sale

Sadly, well out of my reach as well. It does seem cheap, given its size and the fishing rights attached, but perhaps that is a reflection of the current state of the economy and property market for this type of business? Dave

Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing CHRISTMAS SPECIAL

Catch of the year was a particular highlight! Much more entertaining than when the Grand Tour visited the Lofoten Islands - that show really is pretentious, self indulgent junk. Dave

    global warming

I don’t know about anybody else but we could certainly do with a bit of global warming down here on the South Coast at present!😉 We’ve even had a walrus turn up on one of our local beaches! Dave

A little bit of tidying up.

Looks like we’re back to the bad old days of the 60s & 70s when this kind of ‘improvement’ was the norm. 😡🤬😡 Dave

    Chub rod

If you can’t get it fixed,I would recommend the Drennan Series 7 Specialist Avon Quiver 1.25lb. An excellent bit of kit with plenty of backbone but a forgiving tip or quiver tips, if preferred. Dave

    H Avon/ D Stour condition?

No problem, Kevin. Hope that all goes well and that you manage to get a few good fish from our wonderful local rivers. As Neil said, the HA rises (and falls) more slowly than the Stour, which is more akin to a spate river. Dave

    H Avon/ D Stour condition?

Latest Avon Diary entry should give you a good idea of the Avon levels in the Ibsley area. Stour is high and still rising with plenty of water yet to come down from the upper reaches. Based on the Throop level of 0.93m, the river will be overtopping in places but would still be fishable...

    Longest held ticket.

Found them. First one is actually from 1969, so I was close. That first year cost me 5 guineas (£5.25) and it rose sharply to £7.50 in 1975, £9 in1977 and £10 in 1978. We did, of course, have proper inflation in those days (which seems to be with us again now - but only temporarily I hope!)...
