Thinking of changing my membership from the BAA to enable me to fish the Bristol Avon which is a whole lot closer to my abode.
I have been looking at the Bathampton ticket as that includes a stretch of the Kennet and Avon Canal which can be fished through the close season as well as a few lakes...
I have 2x 4mtr landing net handles, the Middy one is a 3 piece put together handle and is very light at 300g, but I prefer the 4 section Garbolino Tele handle as it can be made shorter if required and the weight of the fish cannot pull the handle apart (as what may happen if you try to pull up a...
Tried mine on with my slippers, they got quite warm on the high setting. Tried them with my dodgy calf in my muckmasters and they work well and fitted even with my joggers inside too.
I've never thought about it to be honest Richard, I haven't actually cast the spopper out it out more than 30 yards which doesn't seem to put any strain on the rod or line, the Deeper only weighs 3.4 ounces and I have cast that further to get the lie of the river but again, no noticeable strain...
I also have a 15" length of 28lb braided wire between the braid and both the spopper and the sonar, I don't want a pike taking a liking to them as I am bringing them back in.
I use 40lb braid on a reel that I only use for Spodding and using my Deeper Chirp+.
As for casting it would depend on the total weight, but I would suspect the midi ones that Andy sells would be about 5-7oz depending on filler material, I expect I would be happy enough using it to cast across...
No need to be sorry, you use what you have.
According to the Cadence website, the 2lb test curve CR10 Barbel Rod (Des Taylor model) is suitable for casting 6oz, it doesn't differentiate what the weight is, so could be anything from a feeder to a lead to a spopper.
What rod would you use to cast out a 6oz feeder?
I use an 11ft 3lb test curve carp rod (just because I have one available), but would be okay with using my 2.25lb barbel rod if I was not trying to cast the spopper over to the far side of the Trent.
It is not a good idea to pour water on any item that has a boiling/melting point higher than water and is in that state.
Some can cause issues without even being heated, strong acids or alkalines for example.
I use a soldering iron with a pointed bit, this throws up some sprue which I cut off with a scalpel (a sharp knife will also do). Gives a really clean hole both sides.
