    Making your own bait.

I actually did this on the first batch , but I was worried about the attention of smaller fish on the un skinned part , but as always with making your own bait I can suck it and see and see how things go . Plus I can always cut the end of the ones I pre cut before boiling

    Making your own bait.

Yeah I looked into steaming but the longer cook times seem to negate the more aggressive boiling method . Reading around in the home rolling community the jury is still out it seems on which is best . I boiled these for a minute which still leaves a nice soft paste on the inside , something I...

    Making your own bait.

Decided not to bother rolling small baits anymore , not sure of any advantages on a river . So I simply extrude through a bait gun with a 16 mm nozzle and cut into blocks or pillows as some home rollers call them . Advantages are it’s lots quicker , bait comes out more open course in texture...

I got told just using egg whites makes a harder bait , not tried it though .

    Solid pva bag fishing

I rarely cast out without a mesh bag attached , I even started using them filled with maggots late in the season on the Trent . Can’t really see the point of a solid bag Barbel fishing , in a carp fishing context they work great because you’re putting the bait - rig - lead everything in there ...

    Solid pva bag fishing

Been using it for the last few months carp fishing , not used it on the rivers although I use mesh bags all the time . I love fishing solid bags , tie em up at home then loop to loop when you get there Nice little parcel of bait with your hookbait sat on top , don think it would work like that...

    Making your own bait.

I actually did say this in an earlier post about getting an happy medium with flavour levels , hopefully the bait company have done enough field testing to give you the correct level . In an HNV bait with a good food signal a flavour may not be necessary , but may take longer to get established...

    Making your own bait.

All flavours emit a food signal that’s the whole point of them , wether alcohol or glycol based , that packet of cheese an onion crisps I ate yesterday didn’t have any cheese or onion in there but cleverly made up flavours that just want me to eat the whole packet in seconds ! There’s a...

    Making your own bait.

Im picking 5k up tomorrow from BAF going to use it with two JB flavours although like you I’m convinced it’ll work without I’m contemplating adding 50g beef liver per 1k just for a bit of personalisation . They won’t let me in the FB HMBB group , tried 3 times now 🤣

    Hooks.

The Gardner muggas in size 12 are good for maggot fishing otherwise it’s a Bank Tackle size 10 or 8 depending on size of bait

    Making your own bait.

No I don’t think so , a good flavour emits a food signal , they’ve no idea what’s in the base mix for them , but the initial attraction is from the flavour , this is why we use low flavour levels in HNV baits because we want the base mix doing all the work long term , it’s the opposite in low...

    Making your own bait.

Absolutely in the short term , pair them with a good flavour they can be devastating No doubt you have used hemp maggots worms castors Not sure how much nutritional value is in those baits

    Making your own bait.

If they didn’t care what a flavour smells like , the 50/50 mixes would never work as they have very little nutritional value and rely solely on the flavours pulling power / attraction. A decent base mix with a big enough food signal needs no flavour , a point I’m going to prove to myself this...

    JB Taste F2 basemix

That’s the kicker for me , it’s hard to swallow that postage . However it’s cheaper from Johnstone/Ross or Yateley Angling , postage is free if over a certain amount . But I did get a couple of kilo from Yateley and it did have the old price covered up with the new price , so made me think how...

    JB Taste F2 basemix

I used it last year on 4 different rivers , don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Although this season I’m going for something different from BAF , just because I can tinker more and I can buy local avoiding shipping costs. Still be using a combination of two JB flavours though.
