how do you keep your Luncheon meat on ?

Enterprise meat mates for me too, unless I'm fishing a snaggy area, in which case I bury the hook in it.

Will the use of technology affect fish behaviour?

I used a similar device on a stretch of the Lower Severn a few seasons back. After a bit of searching I found a decent 'scour' in the riverbed that screamed fish. Having lost gear in that swim in the past, I suspect it was left behind when a snag was moved along the riverbed in times of flood...

    Environment Agency Licence Check

I had mine checked on the Lower Severn about three years ago by a couple of EA Bailiffs in a small inflatable. Good way to cover large sections of river, although i doubt they saw many anglers down there!

    freezer baits

I take a hybrid approach in my fishing. I use shelf life boilies due to lack of freezer space, but wrap my baits in matching frozen paste. This takes up much less space in the freezer, but still gives me good scent leakage when fishing. If baiting an area I'm fishing, I usually chop the shelf...

    What a prat

Arrived at the river for a session after work last Thursday to find I'd left my chair at home. It could have been a lot worse, but I wasn't looking forward to sitting on the cold ground for the evening. However, as luck would have it, I knew the only other angler on the stretch, and he kindly...

The mystery of the lower Severn

I would agree with Paul, the floods have an impact on the river bed (snags, holding areas etc), which then has a knock on effect to where the fish want to be. On one stretch I fish, there was a huge snag about 10 yards long that came 3-4 feet off the bottom of the river. After the 2007...

The mystery of the lower Severn

I personally think that one of the biggest considerations on the Lower is location. Although it looks like a big boring canal, there is quite a variation in depth, substrate etc. Time spent leading around, or using an echo sounder if you have the means, can be time well spent. In my...

    Couriers

I've used Paisley Freight a couple of times and had no problems

    Water temperatures

I agree Keith, the effect of pressure change would seem much more likely to trigger a response in deeper water. Often this would be linked to air temperature, especially if a high pressure cold spell is broken by a big low pressure system from the South West. Interesting stuff, and adds more...

    Water temperatures

Some good food for thought there Keith, thanks. Do you mind me asking if you are referring small or large rivers? I only ask as where I fish on the Lower Severn, some swims are in excess of 20 feet deep, which makes me wonder if small changes in air temperature have as much affect as they do...

    Big chub

I'd expect to have less problems with eels as the water cools down on the Lower Severn Chris. As an aside, not chub, but I picked up a few nice roach last weekend fishing bread/worm. Could be something else to target whilst the conditions for barbel aren't great.

    Big chub

I've caught on Bankside Team Barbel Chris, although that's probably down to the fact that's all I use! In the Up Close and Personal DVD, Stuart Morgan is using boilies whilst fishing on the Lower and mentions that it's also a good chub bait (he also catches a decent one to prove it). I can't...

    Big chub

Hi Chris I've had some success with mashed or liquised bread in a feeder fishing flake on the hook. Admittedly, it was a couple of season back, but I caught fairly well right through the cold spell we had. There was even ice in the margins during some sessions. For some reason, I found...

    Rolling Meat

Interesting post Chris, and something I've been meaning to have a go at this season too. I want to give it a go on the Lower Severn, and think it will involve a bit of trial and error regards swim choice and water level/current. I had a go for the first time last week on the Wye, and...

Wanted a warm water proof jacket thats water proof and warm !

Titan jacket and bib & brace for me. Originally designed for sea fishing, and seems to be much more durable/water proof than other brands of fishing waterproofs I've had in the past. They do them in a green olive colour if camo's not your thing!

    Bib and brace

I've been using the titan bib and brace and jacket for the past two seasons, and have no complaints so far. In my expereince far better than some of the specialist fishing clothing I've brought in the past! They do a nice dark green for those wanting to 'blend in', or a vivid red for those...

    Road Salt

I just checked the weather and the SW is due to warm up over the weekend (in comparison to the last few weeks anyway!). I wonder if this will produce enough of a rise in temps after the cold spell to encourage some feeding, or will the salt and snowmelt negate this? Only way to really tell is...
