Excellent read, very interesting methods too, I've used elders once or twice but not for about 30 years and then only for roach.
You sir, are truly a thinking angler.
I've found myself in the single species trap for about 12 or 13 years with carping and prior to that spent about 8 years trying for a 6lb eel. I certainly have no intention of going there again.
This year, I've not got the carp gear out once and have thoroughly enjoyed myself going for tench...
I used to have a phone number for JRC but it seem's to have changed since they became part of pure fishing. I'd speak to the retailer who sold you the brolly and see if he can't source you a new screw through the sales team.
Failing that, e,mail them and include your number in the hope they...
I think its great that people are doing something, rather than nothing, about the cormorant issue. However, as has been pointed out in previous posts, the whole picture of why cormorants are predating our rivers is a far bigger one and that needs a correspondingly bigger response to deal with...
Well you mentioning out of town didn't ring any bells for me David although like most anglers around my age, I did watch Jack religiously. After a bit of head shaking trying to stimulate the remaining brain cell, I did come up with something.
By the magic of you tube, here's the very...
There was a piece about this way back when, by a famous river keeper/angler whose name escapes me (an age thing ) This fella used to throw himself into the (deep and fast flowing) river, with heavy clothing and waders on, to demonstrate his point. The video showed him floating down the river...
I think that part of the problem is that of most anglers being too laid back (or lazy) to do anything to make the situation change.
If you look just at the club scene you will see the same old faces on work party's and committees, why? Because the majority just want to fish and are happy to...
As promised in an earlier post Joe.
120 gram feeders created no problem for the 2lb tip.
Caught no barbel but did have chub up to nearly 4lb, not much fun catching them on such heavy tackle though.
Although I know nothing about BAA other than its an old club with a fine list of venues, I do think that if members have an interest in changing the rules regarding night fishing then they should make proposals to the committee, prior to the AGM.
Somewhere in the rules of BAA it will have a run...
Hi Joe, I bought the 2lb model myself a couple or three months back and am pretty pleased with it. I'm using 12lb mono on my reels and have used feeders of 90 grams with no worries.
The test will come this week as I'm looking at trying 120 gram feeders. That should be interesting, if the rod...
I've just been making some paste up for my next outing.
She who must be obeyed has used the last of the garlic powder and left the useless granules behind.
Oh well, I improvised by using four teaspoons of granules and four cloves of the real thing in a two egg mix.
The good thing is, it...
I've used garlic powder in the past to spice up winter baits.
I've tried garlic granules and garlic salt but found that the powder is far better.
I used to use three or four tea spoons of powder to a kilo mix but have heard that some people use a fair bit more to good effect.
As other's have already said, I don't consider myself to be a barbel angler, just an angler who tries to catch barbel.
My first experience of barbel was in 1967 or 68, I think I was 12 or 13.
I'd gone with my taid (grandad) to fish Sydney Avenue in Shrewsbury. We'd set up below the weir and...
I'm glad you mentioned the swelling in the gut thing, imo it is an urban myth
Have to agree with you there Adrian.
I personally know of fishery owners in France and UK who feed unprepared maize straight into their fisheries.
I also know a fishery owner who feeds unprepared oats and wheat...
Never used the red band myself but used the Titmuss conditioning seed for years.
Soaked over night in a cooler box with plenty of boiling water and its a goer.
Caught many carp using this but no experience of using it on the rivers. Mind you, I've got half a sack in the shed so might give it...
If the majority of anglers on your waters used cube's, I'd definitely go for something different.
Fish might not have large brains or be super intelligent but they eventually wise up to baits, IMO.
