Super strong beaked point hook

Not the specimen range, they aren't very good IMO, weak wire and the guage is finer and the eyes are a bit off. I tested them a few years ago and didn't like them.

It's the new Barbel Specimen Hooks that are the same as the Talon Tips I'm told.

Thanks

Lewis
Lewis do you mean the Gardner Speci - beaked , or the Gardner specimen hook? the Specimen are a thicker gauge wire mate

Morning,

Another advocate of the Gardner Talon Tips and also the Gardner Target Barbel hooks.

Super sharp and reliable.

Thanks

LewisDo not ignore the pallatrax wide Gape gripz hooks, I've tried them & was very impressed with their performance,
I do love the Gardner hooks, they've been my favourite pattern for years.

However. I've tried these wide gape patterns, and was fishing a snaggy weir pool & was very impressed with the way they held, and very easy to remove.
I have struggled with extracting barbed hooks at times, & don't like keeping fish out of water for too long, so would usually go with barbless for ease, however these do hold firm, and are dead easy to remove....

Hi Jim,

The specibeaked are terrible hooks, really weak and the eyes open up quite easily.

I meant the original specimen hooks in sizes 12-16.

The new barbel hooks look very similar however I've not had them next to each other to have a look as nowhere near me stocks them.

I should have been a bit clearer 😬 Busy week at work 👀😂

Thanks

Lewis

That’s exactly what I thought 💭 I’ve only got 10’s in the specimen and 8’s in the barbel to compare though?

Really surprised to hear that Lewis and not my experience, I’ve been using them a lot over the last year or so in smaller sizes when fishing maggot or caster on the Severn with no problem….although TBF only caught barbel to 8 Ib ish on them. I agree I wouldn’t use them targeting bigger fish but will use with caution from now on. Thanks for the heads up on this

In the last week I’ve had a size 10 gardner target barbel hook open out on me whilst playing a fish which I lost, then a few days later a size 10 gardner talon tip snap! Just above the barb again resulting in a lost fish!!
I’ve gone back to the korda wide gape x in size 10 and will be sticking with those.

Hi all,

I now have stock of the Gardner Target Barbel hooks in size 10:

Cheers,
