Tackle box DV 32inch speci net. Cheap and does the job and packs away to strap to my handle.

I also have the folding spoons from AD Advanta brand. Bought in the sale, had no issues with them the larger size has a deep enough mesh.

36 inch Chris Brown net with an extending pole is my only Barbel net now. Will probably outlast me.

Drennan super specialist nets are good.

I dropped mine on a bit of hard ground and the attachment head shattered but I made an easy fix with a cheap spreader block and a couple of stainless self tappers.

Another shout for the Tackle Box Darent Valley nets! I had that korum all metal hoop thing at one time it was a pain to transport and if you needed to use it on the end of a long pole it weighed a ton to the extent that I couldn't use it one handed. No for convienance and ease of use give me the TB job everytime!

I've just checked out the DV landing nets. Does anyone use the 24" or 28" version that are shallow. I've just returned from the Trent where the bankside rocks could be a problem with deeper nets.

I did manage a solitary 5lber over two days.

Also; are the DV extending handles any good?

I like these and find their small size (compared to a lot of nets people use for barbel) fine in use being manuverable....

I've never even seen this one in the flesh, but it's a larger version of the duel net in the link above and if it's as good quality as the duel I would imagine it will be ideal.....

Alright for smaller fish. I wouldn’t want to squeeze a nene girl into it. They tend to be 28-33 inches long. It’s a club rule that spoon nets are no less than 30 inch

I've never had any really big fish Rich, but, I managed to net a 14.8 in a 60cm net easily enough. I've also landed numerous others to 13.7 in a 60cm net head and it was fine.

Those are really big fish Ian and while they’ll squeeze into a 24 inch net it is by rights too small for them.

I think it’s ok to use small net just for netting them, but retain the fish in a small net is another thing.

24 inch diameter for a 14lb fish seems a bit of a squeeze to me. That’s a 30 inch long fish all day every day.

Either a Gardner Barbel Spoon ( really good - have 2 of these) or Tacklebox Darent Valley Specialist nets - they do 32 or 36 inch nets and you can get aluminium spreaders as spares for them too.

I have the TB Darent Valley 36 as my syndicate water requires 36” minimum for barbel. Awesome bit of kit for the money.

The extending handles are very good. I replaced my Gardner 3mtr with the D.V. Lighter, strong and no problems with the locking mechanism.

A snugger fit stops fish from flapping about and injuring themselves .

When we transport birds we have them in small boxes to prevent them flapping about, same kind'a scenario with a fish really if you think about it.

I agree a large fish will squeeze in a small net, but I think it is fine for just landing and short time transporting. Defintely not for resting the fish.

It is true, if something has less space to throw itself around, it is less likely to hurt itself.
Straight jackets for fish would be great .
