A couple of my largest barbel were caught from a very silty area only about three foot from the bank, in a back eddy slack. I kind of found the spot by accident (dodgy cast) ! You could see bubbles rising when they were feeding very like tench fishing.
Very sad news, I have never met John but felt I knew him from his posts on this site and his PM's to me when I first started fishing the Loddon. RIP John.
I think the surroundings are becoming more important for me, I spent today Tench fishing and was pleasantly surprised to only have one other angler on the lake. But after hours of no fish the lure of walking the river bank behind me took over and I spent an hour walking the bank feeding Chub...
