A couple of my largest barbel were caught from a very silty area only about three foot from the bank, in a back eddy slack. I kind of found the spot by accident (dodgy cast) ! You could see bubbles rising when they were feeding very like tench fishing.
Very sad news, I have never met John but felt I knew him from his posts on this site and his PM's to me when I first started fishing the Loddon. RIP John.
I think the surroundings are becoming more important for me, I spent today Tench fishing and was pleasantly surprised to only have one other angler on the lake. But after hours of no fish the lure of walking the river bank behind me took over and I spent an hour walking the bank feeding Chub...
Leave it as it is. It was mentioned on here the other day that it's good to give the banks and the wildlife a rest, I totally agree with this. It's great when you get back out on opening day to fresh green cover on the banks and not trodden down vegetation and mud!
Yes well done to him great fish. I had my first Barbel out of the Blackwater this season after a long search, it's good to know that fish of that size are in there!
I have seen a couple of 'very big' chub and some decent Barbel on my local River, This Barbel caught in November 2013 was 8lb 6oz from a section which as you can see from the picture you could nearly jump over with a good run up!!
Does anyone know of a compact camera that has a self timer that is longer than 10 seconds? I struggle to get good photos sorted in such a short amount of time.
