Yes, it's good practice to check everything after casting out, no one is doubting that, but we are human and given the choice between a reel where I had to check it every time I cast out and one that I could trust to never snap my line should I forget to check it, I would take the latter every time.
One of the basic laws of fishing which you have to learn very early on is that there is a very strong positive correlation between degree of sudden tangleyness and eagerness to recast after a good bite.
