Before there were Barbel rods / older rods

That would be good to see if my memory was correct and what rods he had with him in that article.

Before there were Barbel rods / older rods

I've also got a IYCF in storage with Matt Haynes barbel fishing with the medium and heavy Drennan feeder rods and 8lb line. Last night I also re-watched the go fishing episode on the Teme with John using his Avon quiver and a Mitchell 300 for Barbel. When Bowler revisits for fishflix it was...

Before there were Barbel rods / older rods

I was gonna post, there was an improve your coarse fishing article with Len on barbel fishing in the 90's and I'm sure in that piece he was using a Drennan 1.25lb and also the im8 bomb rod.

    Rod actions (again)

We're all using 1.75 minimum for Barbel, What's the opinions on John Bailey using the 1lb Avon from Thomas Turner for his Barbel fishing? Spec on it suggest it can cast up to 60g with line rating up to 8lb although I think John would use 10lb

Yeah I just found out but there's meant to be a replacement coming so I'll keep an eye out

Great write up! In other news, seems the Barbel Tamers are pretty much unavailable from anywhere, not sure if stock is just low or they have been discontinued?

    Rod actions (again)

My mate has the 12ft 1.75 Tamers, I might see if I can get another look now I've gotten used to softer rods after having the Gurus and see what I think. They were very nice looking rods, I probably can't afford the seekers though so Tamers will have to do if I do switch back.

    Rod actions (again)

This is the thing, I feel a lot of 'barbel' rods now are made to suit the tips in the air, huge feeder or lead style fishing. On my local W.Avon and Arrow this just isn't needed. Everything just seems overly heavy these days, big heavy rods, huge reels. Even my 1.25 Guru Speci rod feels heavy...

    Rod actions (again)

Hi all So rods like the FS Tamer series and the Guru Speci rods feel soft and floppy when held. When it comes to their actual power, do they have the same power as compared to rods that recover quicker and feel stiffer, like the Korum and Drennan range of rods? I think despite feeling less...

Duo Lite FX Multi Tip: 12 - 1.75lb / Quiver

Is there a casting weight range for quiver tips? Only rods like the Guru A class distance feeder, 12ft is rated to 110g and comes with a 3oz max tip The 13ft version is rated to 150g and still only comes with 4oz max Im currently happy with my Guru duel tip speci rods but looking back I...

    Jw young reel valuation

I didn't say any had been cut, I was jokingly being biased that the best ones came from us in Redditch with Garry as our assembly manager.

    Jw young reel valuation

I'd say it's one from th current owners then Those Redditch ones with the printed backplates were the best.....lol

    Jw young reel valuation

If it came from Masterline or the owners who bought the Young's name then it still looks like a standard caged lightweight, I think they switched to engraving rather than printing? So might be test run that they didn't engrave? Actually I just noticed the serial number in the back plate. I...

    Jw young reel valuation

If that came out of the Redditch factory before we had to sell to Masterline than I would been involved in putting it together Looks like a standard Purist caged lightweight. Although I can't recall if we had a full production run of those before we closed but im sure we did? Looks pretty...

    Feeder rod reel

Daiwa Emcast br lt in 2500 and 3000 sized for £39.99 from Tackle UK. I've got them in 2500 and 5000 and love them. Really lightweight despite having the freespool system and comes with a spare alloy spool.
