I am recently retired and although I have extensive knowledge of Barbel fishing (allegedly 😬) I have never fished the Severn. I live in Poole, Dorset, and have joined BAA with the intention of “Spreading my wings” and fishing more diverse waters.
Clearly this will entail travelling up...
The rod is based on a 1.6 TC Harrison Avon blank to my understanding? The reel is built by the sadly now deceased Dave Beale who was a very good angler and accomplished engineer, producing centerpins from his home workshop close to the lower Dorset Stour.

Floodwater fishing is quite an extensive subject and lot's of us will have differing views on the best way to approach them.
Different rivers demand different tactics due to the substrate of the river bed e.g. whether the river bed is gravel or rocky and therefore snaggy.
