    Another Rod Question!

I've got 1.75lb Torrix, 2lb Torrix and Peregrine Floodwater rods, most of my autumn fishing has been done with the latter. Powerful enough to throw a big feeder out if required but sensitive enough to show the taps. About the same price of a 2lb Torrix too...

    New Baitrunners

Rob, decent butt grips and the baitrunner should still release line on the take. Thought you were using them?

Interesting pair of new Roger Surgay retro Avon rods on Ebay.

Chinese made I'm assuming? Labour usually being the biggest single cost.

Probably wasn't meant as a joke but I made my own up!

    Angling mail

Used to love reading the angling weeklies as a kid when the likes of Richard Walker were writing about shotting patterns and the principle of floatation, proper insightful articles. I gave up when the sensationalism crept in akin to the Sun newspaper and when perch became sergeants and barbel...

Is the burbot extinct in UK?

Hi Neil, the burbot thing at the Ousemeister is in jest. From what I recall the last known stronghold was the lower reaches of the Yorkshire Derwent. It hadn't been tidal for many years so they probably died out naturally. I do recall catching flounder as far up as the Stamford Bridge weirpool...

    Anglers mail article

Fish respond to angling pressure. I'm in a small syndicate on a traditionally tough river. When I joined a decade or so ago about 10% of the membership were barbel anglers and I regularly caught in daylight. The same syndicate now is around 90% barbel anglers and I now catch most of my fish...

    River dearne

They claim that that's the sort of thing they want to be informed about. I've only previously reported pollution incidents to them but they did respond.

    Split Cane rods

Our very own Mike Hodgkiss is a bit of an expert and cane restorer. He may be able to advise and offer something suitable.. For my barbel fishing I have a MkIV carp, MkIV Avon, a Barbel Perfection and a Chapman's 500.

Quiver with room for Fox specialist Brolly

Mine fits fine in the Gardner roving quiver, a bit snug but it does fit.

    Umbrella / Brolly

Bought a Fox Specialist at the start of the season to replace my ancient Wavelock, really happy with it, properly built and fully waterproof. Comes in a waterproof sleeve but it doesn't have a carrying strap however it does fit into my Gardner river quiver. I tried the Nufish Nu-lite but it...

    Line strengths for rod.

I use a 0.18mm (20lb) soft braid on my pin when trotting for barbel, 50 yards and no backing line. I use a much lower BS fluorocarbon hooklength to suit the swim and size of target fish. No issues apart from a bit of bedding in after a big fish.

    Best nite lites

I use these snap type, bright and cheap as chips, 100 for £8 delivered. They last around three or four days and seem to get brighter again after a fish. Probably not much use on some rivers but great in God's own county! 😆 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/313160128707
