Tim, saw your post about Letton Court too … the Wye like other spate rivers is wild with steep banks, the pictures you posted look great to me, what did you expect ? I’ve fished Letton numerous times and agree it’s not very clear where to go but it’s a great stretch of water.
i think your approach is sound Ian, at a minimum I always keep my fish in the net when laying on the ground. Mats don't work on sloping banks either so they are not the perfect solution in all cases. I wouldn't lake fish without a mat though, now we have man made "bivvy" swims with not a blade...
changing baits, changing swims, changing where we cast in swim, long hook length, short hook length... in my mind thats just fishing and exploring what may work on any given day. When one of these changes brings immediate results it sometimes feels like intuition but in reality I think its just...
hi chaps, so everybody like a "happy ending" !! Picked up the new top section today foc so thank you Drennan and shout out for Total Fishing Tackle for their great service and supporting me. Now Ive just got to christen the rod with a nice barbus !
got an email today saying Drennan are sending me new tip section to the tackle shop, it didn't say specifically free of charge but it didn't mention any cost so Im hoping foc.
quick update chaps .... i took the rod back today and explained what I did (truthfully !!), the chap in the shop examined the rod and said in his opinion it looks like a fault in the blank, he said it looked like a wrap of carbon was missing where it broke, and he thinks Drennan will give me a...
Ian, I need a lesson for catching barbel on the float please !!! Ive had 3 amazing days float fishing for chub and barbel, only thing is I only hit one barbel and I lost that !! I did catch over 40 4lb+ chub though on the Wye and Severn so I was doing something right.
I'm laughing it off, honestly. Im going to take it back and explain what happened, ask them to send it back to Drennan and if I have to pay for a new top section no problem.
yes I should have been more careful but as said before Ive done this so many times before with other float rods and never had a problem. I was quite shocked to see how thin the walls were when looking at the break, amazing they can be so strong when playing a fish.
second time out with my 14' acolyte specimen yesterday, was rigging it up and I grabbed the top section near the joint with the middle section to push the rod back and lifting slightly, the top section snapped clean in two in my hand like snapping a twiglet, not impressed !!!
