Nigel I have these. I bought them years ago when they came out. Considering I mainly fish rivers they were not a good buy! They are heavy in the hand and yes they are slow action. I used them last year at Chew and they threw a half Mackerel with a 3 oz lead a good distance so for bank fishing on...
I think, also being a Carp and all round angler, that the use of large rings on Carp rods is, to a certain extent, overplayed and is often merely fashion lead. In the early days of Carp fishing rods had standard sized rings and 8 -:10 rings. All this changed towards the end of the 80s with...
Hi Anthony. Looking very nice.
I've built/ altered a few Harrisons lately.
I have built two Chimera 2's and altered a Chimera 1 which I bought cheap with a long handle and too many rings for my liking.
I have gone for the traditional look favouring plain cork, Fuji dark grey reel seats and Kigan...
Going way back we used a piece of reed. You can pull out the centre and it leaves a coil that you can slip over your line. A swan shot can be nipped onto the tag of the leaf for extra weight. Then there was the coils of plastic moulded in a film cannister dropped in boiling water. I never got on...
Having beaten a 20 plus Carp in a raging flood on the Stour, pulling it across the flow and up to the net due to restricted access below, on my Torrix 11' 1.75 I have no reservations about its power to cope with any Barbel ( or Tench). I suppose it might not be the best for slinging big leads...
Which ones were a pig to cast with Chris? The 12' plus? I think the Flex would be all I need most of the time. I spoke to Steve Harrison who confirmed they share the same top section so will get the Flex butts and that will be all I need. I dont enjoy extreme range fishing and rarely even cast...
I think that's a good attitude. I have bought Aviator Carp rods but really so far, it is early days, I cant see much, if any, difference to the Torrix Carp rods. For the fishing I do I think I actually prefer the Torrix as they are easier action.
Same as the Torrix specialist. I bought those...
There may well be if the Carp rods are anything to go by. They have all sorts of lengths and test curves. I think they have only just started producing them so will go for the common 12' 1.75 first at a guess?
Yes the Aviators have been around a fair while now in Carp rods. My Aviator plus's are a little firmer on the cast than the Torrix 3.25 although to be fair most of the time I only cast 40 yards! Occasionally I will fish 80 - 100 so it will be interesting to note the difference to the Torrix 3.25...
