You Can't Catch Barbel On The Float In Winter.....

I'm sure Ian is experienced enough to know what a suitable bit of natural ground for unhooking is, without a mat.
That's the point Dave , there is no suitable bit of natural ground anywhere in the uk, to even , lay a barbel on ....
They should always be put on a padded mat , to protect their internal organs, and as importantly to preserve the natural mucus/slime which protects the fish in its natural environment.....
Just my opinion...
. Of course...

There was never any "negativity" intended.
Only honesty..
I'm sure Ian is big enough to fight his own corner , and respond as and how he feels fit
But unfortunately, his quarry has no say in the matter!
As far as I'm concerned it was a very negative comment, also quite hypocritical as is your last sentence in your quote above.

Does your quarry have any say in the matter when you drag it form its' natural habitat?

Is the grass Ian laid his fish on any more of a sharp object than the hook in its' mouth, the grass looked "plush" enough to me.

I know Ian's big enough to fight his own corner, that's why I didn't post until after he did. I found your comment not only rude but imo, bitter and even possibly envious!
