Trigga Ice

Regarding concerns over ingredients being omitted due to cost or non-availability, isn’t this true of most if not all long standing base mixes across all bait companies?

To this end, is JB’s Bio Shellfish the exact same recipe as when Tony Miles first used it?

I know one carp angler who took local waters apart with the original Nutrabaits Big Fish mix and he still uses it.

Even on the ingredient front, Haith’s Robin Red is different due to availability of ingredients.

Just because base mixes change and evolve, it doesn’t mean they should be dismissed. Elips Pellets are nothing like the originals, but they still catch Barbel.

The problem is when bait companies insist the ingredients are the same from the original ones used back in the eighties/ nineties.
Why don’t they just say a few things had to be changed because of unavailability / cost , instead of riding on the laurels of the old bait .

You are exactly right.

It is a potential can of worms. I could name one well known bait that was/has been/maybe still is available in about 5 different versions. IF you get the best version then it is significantly more productive than the run of the mill stuff….a little bit extra of the ‘right stuff’ makes a big difference.

Sometimes the changes are forced on the supplier; but sometimes they are made for commercial reasons. Whatever the circumstances; it seems that the customer is often the last to know.

That constitutes about the best argument in favour of making your own bait - quality control.

If you read The Evolution of Trigga on the Nutrabaits website, it talks about “the magic powder”. So you would assume this is the unique ingredient on which both base mixes are built, along with the mentioned pre-digested fish meals, krill powder, CLO……

Are we saying that the unique magic powder is no longer available? If its no longer available then I see the ruse, but I dont see anywhere that Nutrabaits claim that the overall recipe hasn’t changed.

My reason for showing an interest in Trigga/Trigga Ice, is because I’ve been considering rolling my own and using it for a Barbel campaign on a small river.

Like I said I’ve read from various sources and verbally that the original Trigga ingredient ie Trigerol is long gone and the German company who made it , Nutrabaits substitute for Trigerol is BAFs liver hydroslate , which I have in my bait cupboard but sadly I don’t have the Nutrabaits Trigga liquid to compare .

Ok with you now 👍🏻

Of interest, when I approached Nutrabaits asking why they had no recommended base mix Barbel recipes on their website, they advised to elevate the levels of liver powder 🙂

The "magic powder" was the Trigarol in powdered form.

I use all nutrabaits basemixes, and catch loads of barbel and chub, no matter what basemixes you use, I think it is what oil and liquid foods you use, just don't go over the top on what you put in it, if the basemixes have changed like it has been mention, it still works, no company can keep the same mix, they have to alter it slightly, so be it, but a top bait in my armour, just got to use it right, only way to catch fish is through it's belly, but I would not change from nutrabaits, it stood the test of time with me, used to use hinuval , they can't get the right ingredients for the old version, not try the new version, but nutrabaits I have had some impressive catches.
But I would of thought , all basemixes out there, will catch barbel, just got to have faith if what you use
