On a fairly recent rod there is a good chance of a spare for a broken rod. Old rods are more of a problem.
Keeping quiet and out of sight, I tackled up my north western kevlite barbel quiver rod while seated. When I could not reach to thread the top section, I lifted the rod by the top section to push it away. Two nice clean breaks either side of my hand, no chance of a spare for me.
