You Can't Catch Barbel On The Float In Winter.....

Watched the video last night Ian. That Zeppelin is so smooth, with no rattle that u get on some pins.
You rang a bell in my head when I saw the sweetcorn; having caught loads of Barbel in the past on corn(feeder). I haven't tried it on the float on the lower Trent yet, it's going in next time for sure.
Keep up the good work...
I have caught a fair number using float fished corn on the Trent.
One day I was getting my home prepared hemp out of the freezer and came across a bag of frozen sweetcorn I had partly used. I chucked it in the bait bucket with a view to adding it to the loose feed. Having mixed some with the hemp, meat and pellets that went in via a spopper I got to a point that bites had dried up on meat so swapped to corn and started catching again. I have done the same with pellets so if they are eating a mix of loose feed then it makes sense to use the same on the hook. Hemp might be a bit challenging though!

Well done Ian, that river is amazing..Great skills too🎣.
This is what my river looks like.

Thanks, John, the rivers I fish are spate, so they're up and down like a Kangaroo!
I have to keep my eye on the weather conditions and the river levels in advance to spot a day suitable to fish.

I can only think what fishing for Barbel on the float was like, seems ages ago. Tell you what I have learnt quite a. It watching Ians Videos. That big bunch of maggots, I only ever pir no more than 4 on generally 3 tbh. Corns not new to me at all 20 odd years ago I'd use nothing else, there was no need Trent Barbel.love it 100%.. Last time I fished corn it was Hoveringham, using a Cralusso surf float, I think I had an eleven and a handful of Barbel too.
Every days a school day..

If only it was possible to pick up Ian’s casting skills from the videos 🤩
4g float 30 yards on a pin …… skills

Not only godlike casting skills . . . .driving to the venue in a pair of chesties is impressive enough!

Hahaha, to be honest, Chris, they are fine to drive in. They have separate felt-soled boots, which are easier to drive in than my ordinary ones.
The uppers dry out nicely with the car heater blowing, but the neoprene socks and boots are still soaked, so they need hanging up to dry off.

My wading boots are like clown shoes (size 12 feet) and I'd be pressing the accelerator and brake at the same time!

Not in the video (unfortunately) but I fell heaad fisrt into the river as I exited to go home lol.
Payback for me laughing at a friend when he fell in while we fished together back end of last summer.
Go on Josh, have a laugh at me know 🤣😂👍.
At least you fell in shallower water when it was warmer, it was propper cold when it went down my chesties 😨.

I once hooked a barbel of 13lb 3oz, in the lower part of the caudal fin.....
After 10 minutes it surfaced about 45 yds downstream near an inside tree.
And 5 mins later i was considering jumping in, as I thought it was maybe a catfish....
Then after another 5mins and gaining 10yrds , it surfaced again, and I saw it was a barbel , so I applied as much pressure as possible to get it landed, matted and returned...
Flicking through your video 10 seconds at a time as usual , until I find something interesting..
I stopped when you plonked your foul hooked Barbel onto the not so plush winter grass!!!!....
Ian.....
Would you like B.F.W. members to have a whip round, to buy you a suitable unhooking mat....

Just my opinion of course...

You said it, Jim, "just your opinion".

I've been looking in since the "negative" post, waiting for a response by, hopefully Ian but also any other member.

All I can say is; well restrained Ian!
There was never any "negativity" intended.
Only honesty..
I'm sure Ian is big enough to fight his own corner , and respond as and how he feels fit
But unfortunately, his quarry has no say in the matter!
