Wychwood Quickfold Specimen Net

Anyone out there using the Wychwood Quickfold Specimen for barbel, any thoughts on it from a user? I've just got the small 22" version to replace a broken Drennan 22" Specialist and it seems to be excellent. Seriously considering buying the 30" for barbelling and roving carp fishing.

Hi Chris,
I had this type of net for quite a few years, in fact I carry one of these in my van as a spare.
It was ok, but you must make sure that the arms are pushed into the Y joint securely other than that they are no problem.
Brian.

PS.......never had a 20lb+ Barbel in it to test it properly.

My mate had one was out on the weekend and it snapped at the spreader block, I'd imagine he just had a dodgey one, he was carp fishing but they were only tiny from what I saw, 4-6lb. From what I hear they're good nets. I need to replace my abu net as the mechanism where it folds down seems to be getting weaker. I saw a decent looking Korum net in the shop the other week, may go back for a closer inspection after payday!

Have a wychwood one in loft and that is where it will stay lol lovely size shape problem was the arms keep coming out of spreader block ended up putting a small screw in then is a pain to carry brought the korum folding net had no problems with it at all

Thought it was good at first and now have a 25" and 30" larger one - also in the loft!
Went back to my ABU folder and reduced diameter Gardner spoon.

Cheers
Bob

Never bought one but found a broken example on the river bank last season and now have a spare net for my own landing net,the rest was removed and thrown in the bin at home.

broke mine last week as it doubles as a tench net,

not had any problems in use as such but the issue came from (as does previous comment about loose arms dropping out) elastic cord.

seems its wound round and round during production to keep it tight, this lead to mine cutting into its self which i found after taking it apart to replace, if the cord is over stretched i.e. after a length of time it will go slack and allow the arms to drop out.

now onto replacing said cord, the end caps are riveted on so i drilled them out, put new cord in and fixed them back on with self tappers.

still waiting on a reply to my email from wychwood though re. replacement parts
