Why bother joining clubs or sydicates

Tony
If I do see anyone fishing on I Will ask them fairly politely why,I will further give them advice on times etc?
I have no particular interest in becoming a baliff,I oversee a large company and my free time is pretty much resticted by circumstance on the day, however I am more than prepared and happy to go on work parties for which I would need to book a holiday day or 2.
In fact if Im not mistaken your the geezer with the large terrier for want of a better name. You and a baliff were "making new swims a few days ago????
I want to get off the subject of baliffs for at the end of the day its the individual that chooses to break the rules whether with the baliffs knowledge or off their own bat.
However if a baliff is fully aware and assists others to break the rules he has no right to be a baliff.Does He?
I applaud anyone who does good things for the right reason I condemn those that do it expecting a gratuity.
Please be assured my original thread contains ONLY what I saw on that night, others have given me other information which I have chosen to add both on this forum and elsewhere.

Happy fishing
Tony

heres a general knowledge question on the 26-08-2011 what time was sunset in the UK??? Answers on a postcard Please.
Dont bother heres the official times
August 27, 2011 6:18 19:37 13h 19m
August 28, 2011 6:19 19:35 13h 16m
August 29, 2011 6:20 19:33 13h 13m so I assume the river was empty at 20-33???

Tony

Tony ,
Depending on whose times you use the sunset time on 26 the August would have been about 8.00pm , however
this has no relevence to fishing times at Fishers Green because this year the F/G consortium changed the packing up times FROM an hour and a half after
sunset TO 11.00pm up until the end of August . These times are clearly stated on the entrance to the fishery . So no the river would not have been empty at 20.33 in fact I was there with quite a few others until 23.00 hrs.

Does this alter your thoughts ?

Richard

I stand corrected on those times however my mind cannot be influenced on the matter in hand as I was there from approx midnight to 12-15 getting home approx 12-40...yep it takes longer to walk in the dark as Im a cautious bugger

Tony,
Where on earth did you get that from ?
I dont have a timer on my camera .
That fish was caught on the 25th August at about 21.15 and was
witnessed by one of the baliffs.
You are at risk of making yourself look very stupid and alienating the F/G regulars who would know that I certainly do not fish after time.

Richard

Tony,

It looks like you have got your facts wrong again.
The time and date accompanying that picture is actually the time that it was
submitted to the BFW website gallery .

Richard

Tony,

Just to prove a point the time on this picture is 23.55
you can check it on the River Lea thread page 7

it was caught slightly earlier than that :D:D

The time on each picture is when that picture is used , so if you check back to page 7 you will
see 23.55 and on this attachment of the same picture you will see the time and date i attached it.

i hope this helps

Richard

Richard NOT again .....however I could be wrong so will concede based upon your comment and explanation

Fishers Green Consortium

I have just gotten back from a night time sweep of the old river at Fishers Green,
5 members of the consortium and I did a sweep of both sides of the river at midnight, although we did not capture any members fishing after time we did find two anglers fishing close to the bailey bridge, near the middle car park, these anglers did the ofski across the bridge.

I was the closest to these anglers at the time and although I was primed like a coiled spring my tough and athletic body let me down and I was forced to give up the chase after a mile or so (that’s what it felt like); we did however retain these anglers tackle.

If the two anglers in question contact their member club we will arrange to exchange their gear for their Fishers Green tickets, if they do NOT make contact, the tackle will be sold and the proceeds awarded to either junior members, or toward a coaching scheme.

We will in future be conducting regular night time sweeps of the old river, any angler that we find fishing after hours will be relieved of their Fishers Green permits and I will press the member’s clubs disciplinary committee, to expel these anglers from the club.

The Fishers Green Consortium will NOT accept ANY fishing after hours, either by members OR Consortium bailiffs and if necessary we will involve the Police.

In future if there are ANY complaints concerning Fishers green, please can you contact either myself or the Secretary of the Consortium members club.

Keith Speer
Fishers Green Consortium Fishery Manager

I very much appreciate your efforts and I hope others that have been offending will take heed or at the least toe the line for the future.
I realise some of my comments on this site may well have been misguided but they were not given maliciously.
It was my hope that merely raising the issue here and the word of mouth follow on would have put them off poaching.
I now know who I need to speak to in the event of any further issues and will undertake to do so.
Why other consortium members knew things were occuring to the detriment of all and did not do anything about it I cannot understand. If the people who can bring about changes are not made aware how can they be expected to remedy a situation.
While I fully realise that some anglers are fully committed in their pursuit of the Leas wonderful Barbel,I felt it totally unjustified that swims were taken several hours before anyone should have been on the river, giving zero opportunity to other members. The fact that the fellas I came across were"bivvied up" suggests to me that they had been there some while and were expecting to stay some while longer and anyone staying on a long session is likely to be approached by a baliff so this in turn led me to believe they must be card carrying members and not one off chance it poachers.
Once again thankyou

Tony

Blimey I was thinking of going down there next week as well. I feel somewhat put off now.

I must say however that so far my visits to Southern rivers have been very positive and the members of said rivers could not have been more helpful.

Can't fault Keith's direct action though.

You don't get any problems with anyone on the fishery, the head bailiff looks after the place well and most regulars have his mobile and the parks police attend if need be.

I get over there almost every evening and weekend, so does the head bailiff and Ive never seen any agro.

As the last post says.........DO NOT be put off.....the problems I experienced will no doubt go away and it was not violence I experienced in any way,it was merely people hogging the swims....possibly poaching but I will never know.
I fish it a fair bit but I tend to fish down river and for short periods.
This river will become better I am certain as the season progresses.
I to applaud the decision of Keith and the other baliffs whose actions will no doubt have gone a fair way to alleviating the issues I raised.
I will be there 4 times a week if I have my way

Conrad, there are several clubs in the Consortium to choose from, although I am not a member of Verulam, they probably have a wider selection of other rivers than the rest, should you wish to have extra options for your money.
Feel free to P.M. me if you do join and want an up-to-date river report. I get to the Lea several times a week.

I won't make any further public political comment on Fishers Green at this time as I believe Keith now has plenty of information at his disposal to work with. It's up to us members now to help him.

I would suggest though, that anyone who finds themselves in Tony's situation is best served by contacting the relevant club officials at the earliest opportunity (before a public announcement), giving them the best chance of catching the culprits red-handed.
If you think bailiffs may be involved, then obviously go over their heads to the Club Committee.

Boring now

Tony you appear to be becoming frustrated at my comments and would appear to try to belittle them at every opportunity,is there a specific reason that I should possibly be aware of?????
Please feel free to enlighten me,because for the life of me I cannot ubderstand it..You bang on of the good deeds you do at your expense to improve and care for this river...my getting poachers caught is equal in value as far as I am concerned.
If you are so fed up and bored then I suggest you avoid this thread or if offended by its content ask that it be locked by the administrator.
Please bear in mind that the origin of a Forum is a place of free speech.
I have resigned myself to the facts that some information I was told may have been incorrect, and I have publicly apologised to those I may have offended, however the end result was proven to be as I had stated...had I informed the relevant persons only and not put it here for all to see then Im almost certain a few others would be off the water as I type this.
I cannot beleive for one minute that a person that attends the venue almost every day/evening has not come across that which I did in just a few evenings.
However I must respect your stance and by the same token you should respect mine.
