which bib n brace?

Ben Cook

Senior Member
I'm after a new bib n brace for winter my old shimano one has had it! I've narrowed it down to either the ESP super grade salopettes or the greys grxi extreme.Anyone own either one that could give me any feedback would be great, many thanks . Ben

I hummed about this last winter. I settled on the Wychwood Extremis - it suits me for the day light roving for Perch and dusk onwards for Barbel. If I was not roving about so much I might have gone for one of the super warm Prologic ones.

My Chub B&B and jacket have served me very well over a good few seasons and I am about to replace them.I am told by Chub that they are to introduce a new range in the Autumn ,I hope they are as good as the last set,I shall wait and see.
I have had a look at the Greys and even Hardys. To me my fishing clothing is top priority as I use it three or four times a week in all elements and expect it to perform.
Many years ago my misses bought me a set of Barbour leggins which lasted three weeks and when I took them back, the shop asked what is was using them for.
Fishing I replied.
They said that they were really only for shooting and I was abusing them.
Never bought Barbour again.

I bought the Chub B&B two years ago and although they were only used for dog walking last winter, doubt many got much fishing done, I have found them nice and warm when out fishing in them. I will shortly be buying a pair of muckboots for the winter and should be snug as proverbial if it isn't as bad as the last one.

I have the Korum all weather set and cant fault it. As with most of the gear its not the cheapest out there but would recommend to anyone.

Ben, I bought an Igloo 3 from the BFW shop yonks ago (must be five or six years).......its still going strong.

I've had some Prologic Max 4 ones for 3 seasons now, absolute toast you are in them, got the jacket aswell, I could not careless what the temp is in winter, it does not affect me.

Seen someone say the build quality is not good, well the set I've got is bombproof, maybe a cheaper set is not so good, very happy with what I've got.

Looked at the igloo mate, not sure which to go for mk5 or the 6

I have had an Igloo 5 for 2.5 seasons. It is extremely warm if required with the quilted jacket zipped in. However up to now I have not washed mine for fear of compromising the waterproofing. Also it is some of the threads around the cuffs and on the velcro has started to perish.

I have fished for Perch in sub zero temperatures without any discomfort, however you wouldn't want to jog in it!

Conrad, Nikwax do a range of products for exactly that. I wash my gear in Nikwax TechWash, a non-detergent washing liquid, but just to make sure I wash it again in Nikwax TX.Direct Wash-In Proofing as well (both here). You have to dry it thoroughly in a tumble drier for best results though. My thick padded jacket takes an afternoon in the dryer! Works a treat though, my gear is clean, waterproof and breathable. Use it for my hiking gear as well.

Any walking/camping shop will sell it, though the Amazon link above is cheap.
