Where to fish on the Trent

Hello I’m hoping to fish a 48hr session on the Trent soon with my son aiming to hopefully catch some barbel and chub we will be Coming from spalding and will be heading up the A17 via Newark can anybody recommend a decent day ticket stretch to spend the weekend with my boy this will be only my second time fishing this lovely river.

If you’re looking to fish overnight then 3 places spring to mind, Bob’s Island, Collingham and A1 pits. All 3 can fish well but all 3 have mixed reputations.

I'd avoid a1 pits like a dose of the 👏🏻,
There was a bunch of chavvy gangster shits when I went abouts 6 yrs ago. They were spodding on the river. Not using a spopper or sbomb, bloody spodding!
I have heard people have had their tackle "bank" robbed in the night also.
Stay safe wherever you go especially if you've got your nipper with you.

Thanks for the advise lads, I’ll give the stretch at a1 pits a miss I think thanks for the warning Chris. And thanks for the recommendation of Bobs island & collingham Neil I’ve checked them out online and I like the look of both so I guess I’ll have to toss a coin,

Just a different slant on A1 pits. I fished a couple of sessions there last year and didn't have or see any problems. I think most of the issues, If there are any, are from the lakes. Yes, there are big groups of anglers all gathered together around them, and when I was there it looked like a big social was going on, but the river is out of the way. The banks are tidy and you can park behind nearly all of the pegs. The Bailiff comes round and collets your peg fees and leaves you alone. I like it there and will be going again in September.

Collingham is also a good shout, but you'll need to barrow your kit on a lot of the pegs.

Bobs island looks a little busy for my liking, but has some form.

There's a few pegs at Smeatons caravan park, but booking is required.

Gunthorpe weir is day ticket, but very popular and the better pegs are members only.
