What's going to work? Team work!

Alex can you not see how negative your post is?

No I can't. I have commented on the feasibility of allying, or not allying with another sport. Now can you please explain how on earth that is negative. I would suggest you are far more negative by claiming that angling will never ally itself because 90 or so people have commented on a thread on BFW and not reached a verdict!

Alex, if you think allying with a blood sport qill help angling then there is no hope for you. We live in a world where people, if pressed would sign a petition for the "save the clay pigeon"
Is an alliance with a group of shooters hurtful to a group of anglers? YES!! Of course it is, you're taking to a man who has both firearms and shotgun certificates. I've mentioned to people I'm shooting clay pigeon and been asked don't I think that's cruel. (Seriously)
As I've been asked when fishing, do you put them back? Only then to explain that I care more about the fish than humans.

People associate blood sports with the like. So he who shoots must be a blood thirsty walter mitty.

But as the informed know, we aren't.

No hope for me? Thank you for that very succint summing up of my opinions! You obviously think you are right and I am wrong, or everyone who disagrees with you is wrong. You say I am negative because I hold a different view to you. That is downright presumptious Nick and I disagree with most of what you say. You assume everyone is anti any field sports. I am telling you from an acitve, regular involvement with shooting that I don't believe that to be the case. Certainly a lot are, but a great many more are much more aware these days of how field sports are closely linked to conservation. The way some people are so cravenly apologetic for their sports, and this includes a lot of anglers, is going to do a lot more harm than standing up for ourselves and working with other country sports.

This, of course, is just MY opinion.

By all means disagree, that's why we have forums, but don't accuse me of negativity and having no hope just because I don't share your views.

Wouldn't this site be so much better if people commented on the topic rather than each other. I know we feel strongly about our different viewpoints but in reality we are all probably quite normal easy going folk.

The shooting argument, and the public perception of it, is and interesting angle. I believe that the way to protect wildlife in Africa is to generate enough money from legal hunting to be able to police the game parks adequately from poachers. I also believe that this will alter the public perception of hunters in general.

I have no problem being associated with this. I am a hunter. I pursue wild animals for sport. I do not kill them but some other anglers do, am I supposed to stand alone from them? Time to wake up and take a long hard look at what we do for recreation.

Quite agree Steve, I did think I was originally responding to a question you put rather than being negative.
