What is the ultimate setup for a long walk?

The Gardner rucksack and quiver for me. The quiver is light and well balanced so doesn't constantly swing round. The rucksack is big but comfortable and holds everything you need for a full day. Bait and everything can be put in the rucksack so all you need to worry about is a seat. I can happily walk to distant swims with this. A roll up mat attaches to the rucksack via velcro straps. Having one hand free means I can open gates etc without putting everything down. On slippery banks I tend to use my landing net pole to steady myself.
I use the Gardner Quiver as part of my light set up.
Recently got a used but vgc TFgear seat box that I'm pleased with to omit a separate chair.

Biggest thing for me is my guru fusion unhooking mat that zips up in half and has a shoulder strap too so doubles up as a bag. That on one shoulder with bait, net and bank stick inside, small rucksack with bits and food, rod, net handle and that’s it. I use the same for chub, barbel, grayling, even tench, just change the rod/net size. If I take my chair it’s a super light weight one that I can also attach a rod rest to (matrix accessory chair with shoulder strap), if it’s soaking I wear a bib/brace and coat so no need for an umbrella. When im only trotting my bait apron goes in the unhooking mat before I’m setup too

Evening Gents,

Not barbel fishing but this is the set up I use when roving the Wye pike fishing.

I'll walk upwards of 6 miles in a day with no trouble.

2 made up rods, 2 bank sticks and landing net handle strapped together.

Rucksack with all I need for a days fishing. Bait, scales, weigh sling, terminal tackle, leads, food, flask, unhooking tools etc etc

I'll sit on the mat and lean against the bag as it's got a solid base so doesn't move.

I use similar when short sessions barbel fishing. Quick to pack away and move so ideal for roving around.

Thanks

Lewis

3rd time out with this set up now, for short sessions when I just nip over the fields for 2-3 hrs. Korum roversack which I’m loving, takes a small tackle box/bait/flask/scales etc and unhooking mat strapped to the top plus net and bank stick strapped to the side. Plus Drennan rod sleeve with landing pole strapped to it.
Really liking the roversack….to the extent I might buy another before they change/discontinue it

I’ve got one of those drennan roving bags
I think it’s rubbish. I might sell it and buy the Korum.
One thing that really annoys me about the drennan is the fact that it’s single zips on everything. So you have to start right and one end and go right to the other end.
The top section opens in the opposite direction to the bottom section and on the whole I don’t like it all baring the shoulder strap. That’s fantastic and the best part of the bag.

I did threat to look at the Korum a while ago but never actually did. I have the transition day sack which is brilliant but a flat opening version would be even better as mine does have a tendency to topple over on the slightest of inclines

I know what you mean about the drennan, and the fact it was unstable on the bank once you unclipped the unhooking mat. The Korum roversack sits on the bank lovely, it’s not going anywhere and everything is easily accessible from the top flap. A real winner IMO….there’s a few things Korum have gone a bit oddball on recently but this is top drawer well thought out stuff

The Korum roversack is the best luggage I bought so far. Much better and useable than the drennan one.

Ive got one of these, excellent quality and for roving it suits me very well, would highly recommend if you want a small bag

That looks an exact copy of the Thinking Anglers ruck sack.

This is one of my lightweight setups korum origional roving kit chair and transition day sack, if I take a chair with strap over shoulder I use korum transition 25ltr hydro pack which is basically a lay flat ruckbag without outer pockets and just one main compartment , it has d loops on to attach a fast mat

One of the best things I ever did was get a snowbee xl folding salmon net and switch out the mesh for that of small/medium triangle carp net. Folds to nothing and is lovely and strong and has a built in sensible length handle.

I have a bag the size of a toaster that contains all the gear I need and a 4 piece Harrison. Rolled up unhooking matt and I’m good to go.

Weighs around 3kg all in. I can and do walk miles with that.

Hi Chris, I’m hoping to sell some rods or swap so I can then get the Harrison 4 piece and was thinking about getting the very same net, as I now travel by train as my fishing buddy is no longer able to manage the rivers. Can you remember what size replacement net you used? Tia
