What bait?🤔

Hi all, apologies if you are all sick of seeing posts regarding baits etc, but i am after your opinions!

I have won 5kg bait of my choice from a carp raffle and i am abit stuck on what to go for.

So i am looking for baits currently available on the market and i think i will go with a majority vote and give a new bait a go! Dont really use alot of boilies in my fishing mainly meat and pellet.

I fish the lower severn predominantly at night if that if that has an affect on recommendations at all?

I look forward to your replies 🤞🏻

Sticky baits krill or krill active if it’s available.

One simple answer, ask John Care, a master of the lower Severn. 👍

If you're thinking of going down the boilie route, I would suggest you have a look at the Sticky Baits Krill Active, as previously mentioned.
It's a well proven year round bait, that's caught loads of Barbel off many different rivers over the years. They smell great too!😃
The key to whichever you decide to go with is to persevere with it👍

Sticky Baits = mass manufactured sweets (saying that barbel will nosh anything)

Personally would go with Vortex Baits if you can however if its mainstream suppliers only then Baitworks Royal Marine / Atlantic Heat or Essential Baits B5 / K5 are better choices IMO . . .

If you go with Baitworks then pick up some 'Scent from Hell' liquid . . . fantastic booster especially at this time of year / flood fishing etc

Hi all
Re the Stcky Baits krill .. any specific size or do all sizes work depending on conditions?
Thanks

Would you recommend a particular Vortex Baits boilie? As they do a few (CKO, Squid Liver Enzyme, Hydroshrimp and Cranberry, Frankfurter Spice etc)

If you're on the Lower Severn at night and you've got feeding barbel in front of you, then you'll catch (or at least get a take from) using any of the above, plus Severn favourites including Red Robin, Ambush, Questrami, etc etc...or maybe a straight halibut pellet with or without being dunked in garlic oil, hemp oil, or blue cheese essence. The trick is (IMO) finding the feeding barbel in several million cubic metre of flowing water 🤔 There's no 'killer baits' on the Lower, just some (like Scopex Squid, and recently Sticky Krill) that 'have their day'. Plus I know a few very successful Lower Severn anglers that just use meat (small, big, huge, or in strings), year in, year out. Maybe go wild and try Sticky (Krill) Spam 😂

Not quite sure about the "Master" label above, if i was then I wouldn't have blanked today.

Last season I had my best season ever, and many of those fish I took on the Sticky Baits Krill active - so they definitely work. Most of my best fish though have come on 10mm pellets - no magic baits anyway, just like Terry said.

Barbel will eat anything . I think all these various flavours are as much to catch anglers as fish . My approach ? Anything smelly on the hook , maggots in winter and don't chuck loads of feed in . Over the years the ONLY bait that I believed gave you an edge was Garlic Spam , sadly it's no longer available .Time and time again, often in huge floods, one piece of the magic spam would soon have the Barbel homing in

I agree Mike, but I'm not sure that Garlic Spam was any better than today's Spam + garlic (that we might add). I don't see how it can be really. Maybe, when it was first used by anglers on rivers, it caught so well because it was novel to fish. Then there's 'Confirmation Bias' ... in that we tend to use baits that we have confidence (deserved or not) in, and try baits we rarely use when we've not had a touch for 3-4 hours (and confirm that that bait is 💩) when in fact the fish aren't actually feeding.

CKO / Dark CKO is probs the most popular - but the Cheese & Garlic / Squid Liver are also good. I like the shape of the cocoons and the boosted pots are arguably the most convenient for high attract hookbaits . . .

Frankfurter Spice is also good, agree about the boosted pots, whether it's the pellets, dumbells or cocoons.
I've not tried the Cheese & Garlic but done very well this Autumn on the Squid & Garlic.

Has anyone any experience with nutrabaits trigga ice? Have heard good things but doesnt seem a popular bait 🤷‍♂️
