What are you favourites hooks?

drennan wide gape specialist
A heads up, I used to use them with maggots for barbel until about 2 years ago:

That wasn’t a big fish either, although feisty and at close quarters.

And me Drennan continental. They are becoming harder to source. I find the barb very large on the Bank hooks.
Bank tackle hooks are generally large.
I just wish they did some in size 12 as I think their hooks are about one size bigger than most of their competitor brands. I use them in size 10, but it's bigger than some size 8's i have from other manufacturers.

Have you looked at their 'Specialist' range Steve?
The Specialist Wide Gapes are much truer to size.

I'm interested to know what everyone's favourite hooks are and in what sizes...

I'll kick things off with the drennan wide gape specialist in a size 8 or 6. I use them because they are cheap and sharp (and I'm one of those things too...). They are quite small for their quotes size

Looking for a good hook in size 2 and 4 if anyone has any recommendation
I've always liked the right hook , but a good uppercut does the trick

The only hooks I've used for barbel fishing in the last 12 years or so are Gardner covert Talon Tips in sizes 12 down to 2.

I've tried all the other Gardner hooks on numerous occasions plus a number of other brands and none come close for me.

They are strong, sharp and do exactly what they are supposed to.

Thanks

Lewis
Same here, I'm big fan of the Gardner targets & Incizors.

I've also used the relatively recent new design from Pallatrax the Gripz hook, the so called third design that bridges between barbed & barbless, and I've been quite impressed with those too.

Incidentally I'm sure I've seen somewhere another range of drennan hooks that are due to be released?

I've used bank tackle, gardner talon-tips, and korda wide-gapes, and all have straightened when I've had a big fish on - so lost faith. I'm now using Korum S5, which so far have been perfect.

That only usually happens when a fish is foul hooked Daniel, could you clearly see where the fish was hooked?
If it was lip hooked then that hook must have been faulty surely.

I don't use those myself, as you probably know I use super spades and acolyte superspades, acolyte grippas for the bigges part, even when legering unless i'm hair rigging a bait.
I can't ever remember one opening up on a fish. I have had them open up when i've hooked a snag and thw point cant penetrate very far into the object though, which is ideal since I fish straight through for the majority of my float fishing.

Carp - Gardener Muggas for pretty much everything; I like a straight point and a big barb - never failed me / never opened one out in 15yrs + of use

Barbel - I flit and change - Widegapes are good but more recently Korda Krank X (love the gape and beaked point) . . .

Another vote for the Gardner talon tips. I like the way they actually resemble a talon and if you look at any natural predator in the wild that have claws, there claws are shaped in this talon way. If it's perfect in the natural world after thousands of years of evolution, then I want a hook that resembles this as close as possible

Size 9-10: still using my supplies of Fox Arma Point SSSP's and SSBP's.

8+: Fox Edges Arma Points Wide Gape Beaked Point and Wide Gape Straight Points.

Nash Claws are pretty good also.
