What’s the easiest way split braid spool

I've got a spare centrepin which has a spool length of 11", so I count out 490 turns for 300 yards or 530 turns for 300 metres.

I then wind the Braid on to a (1st) spool before filling up the remainder of the spool with mono, I then wind that straight onto another spool (2nd) so it is the correct way around and at the correct fill level.

If you haven't got an extra (3rd) spool, then for the next spool, you wind the remainder of the Braid straight onto the 1st spool, then top up with mono, then you need to run it across 2 spools to then be able to wind it back onto the 1st spool the correct way around.

Sounds like a pain, but a) I have lots of reels and b) I have lots of time too.

I have two new reels which I will be loading could do it with one of them and would have to guess the Amount of mono for the backing on the second one doing it like that I think would have to work out how many yards I get off one turn of the reels
 
You need a field about 150yd long. Take your rod and thread the end of the braid reverse tip to reel and tie on. Place a bank stick in the ground. The loop of braid, spool to rod tip, place over bank stick. Walk back until spool is empty. I will let you decide what to do then. A spare pair of hands does help.
 
I bought 300 Metres of Matrix Horizon mono the other day, when I was loading the spool up I was pleasantly surprised to find a 150 Metre sticker half way through. It's a pity all bulk spools don't have that.

I have has spools of mono the same with marks on but not never on braid before
 
I bought one of these years ago, just reverse it-on your rod

You could find out how much line you retrieve from each turn - shimano say I get 105cm per turn of the handle on my integras. You might find the info on the web. Or measure 10m of line and work out how many turns it takes to retrieve that much. Times the number of turns by 15 and count the turns when you’re filling the spool
 
Same problem.
But, I hate problems so set about making a solution.... utilising Pi .

I made a line winder with exactly ( nearly ) one yard per full turn of handle , basically a big centrepin.
I can wind one yard multiplied by however many I require onto the big ‘ pin .
Being a bit ott I made another identical big pin . Now , taking one of the big pins , I wind however many yards I need onto one big pin spool , from the original new line spool ,cut it and and wind it onto the empty reel spool ,I knot the backing line and wind it onto the same spool ,using however much backing it needs to make the line reach the spool lip.
I then wind it all onto the second big pin , reversing the wind, and then back onto the other big pin , so the backing is where it should be , wind it back onto the spool, and the main line is ready for use .
Sounds complicated but in operation is really easy with perfectly loaded reels every time .

I originally made the line winders for saltwater use , as my sea angling uses much more expensive braid than my more frugal freshwater mono fishing . I hate waste . Same result with mono or braid , you just need a bit of time and benchwork . I cant think of an easier way unless you get a spool with line dias >>and << handle turns provided .Which aint going to happen imo .
Sticking a couple of sticks into the ground and winding the line around them is more or less the same idea but you need space . I am workshop rich but space poor .

Are we really to a few yards here and there ?

Use distance sticks. A couple of bank sticks will do. Set at, say, 3m and put 50 wraps on them. Voila, 150m and no need for a big field.

If you have two empty spools to fill that are the same, load the Braid on and top up with nylon to the desired level. Then you can wrap the nylon onto the sticks, count the number of wraps and make a note. Now wind it back onto the first spool before transferring to the second spool to give a perfect load with the braid on top. For the second spool you can now wrap the required amount of nylon onto the sricks, put it on the reel and then load the remaining Braid on top. Done.

And Yes, I have done it before.
 
Thanks everyone think am gunner use some sticks in garden and count them out
Could count turns on reels and judge but spools will retrieve different amount on empty spool to full ones
So think the distance sticks is much easier for now
 
If you’ve got two fixed spool reels the same you can get it pretty dam close
I’ve split spools lots of times within a few meters.

Empty the whole spool into one of the reels then remove half onto the other reel. Because both fixed spool reels are exactly the same you’ll clearly see when you get to the point that they are both carrying the same amount of line from the spool depths.
Just go slowly when you start to get close and take regular measurements from the spool lips as your taking it off one onto another. It will obviously only work with two identical fixed spool reels but at least you
Can split the spool and then put the line on what you like.
 
Orrrrrr if you want to go very accurate and you can get hold of some really accurate scales that go to 0.1gram you can weigh both your reel and the spool of braid take off the whole lot and re weigh them so know the weight of the line only then remove half the weight by re checking as you de spool half the spool. You’ll just have to keep removing the reel and checking the weight as you go. It’s another option.
 
Or just weigh spool of new braid, remove braid, weigh again, then you know the weight of the braid and can keep weighing as you fill you reel .
 
This is how I put mine on the rod because as you know they are for dropping line down too certain depths so you have to turn it around
