Wanted Front Drag Barbel Reel

Bill Ling

Senior Member
Looking for a front drag barbel reel. I usually use rear drag baitrunners that I also use for carp, but looking for the benefits of a front drag reel now. Something like a Shimano 3500B, Shimano 4000D, Shimano 4000 XT FA or Daiwa Capricorn (impressed by reviews on here and elsewhere even though I know they're old reels).

If anybody has any of the above (or similar) for sale or any feedback on these reels then I would be interested.

Cheers.

2500 capricorn just appeared on e bay at a bargain price of £25

i took a punt last year on the same sized reel and its perfect for a bit of roving and touch ledering , mine stays permantley attached to my 11ft 2lb torrix

dont be put off by the size either , i have a shimano technium 4000fb and its almost the same size

cracking drag on it and built to last

i seriously recommend you get it , and at that price its hardly going to break the bank

The 4000d's are great reels, they have a really good front drag, well built and solid, but only one spool and not much good for bigger rivers, imo.
I would also put forward the 5000 XTEA, very nice.

Stuart, do you have a link for that reel? I just had a look and can only see reels in USA.

Cheers,

Bill

Yeah they look nice reels, I've been quoted £120 for the 4000D from Erics Angling. Alternatively they can do the Shimano 4000 XTFA which looks very similar with a couple less ball bearings and other bits (plus a spare spool) for £80 which looks nice.

Bill it went, it was a bargain at that price..........if you wait long enough you will see it on a forum soon for £75 I am sure

Ah, cobblers. I would've definitely had that and bought another reel too. It looks an absolute bargain, but I missed it by a matter of 15 minutes.:(
