Wanted advice on River tripods and bite alarms with receiver

Hi guys, I’m looking into using these items for fishing the River Trent come September can anyone recommend any of the above? And say why they prefer any over others? Cost durability and ease of use etc? Thanks in advance, regards Jim.

Pro logic Tri Sky Pod. - best on the market. Comes in a case and good long front legs. Can fit 48in legs if needed. Alarms. I use Nash R3s. Bombproof alarms and you can get a set with receiver fairly cheaply now. Main reason the in built snag ears and the easy set up with Receiver Don’t bother with R3+ or R4 - paying for modes and extras you don’t need.

Thanks for your reply Simon, I will look into the pro logic Tri sky pod 👍🏻 do you know where I can find the R3 alarm and receiver? I have one R3 alarm already but can’t find anywhere with stock of the alarm and receiver, mate Tia

As Simon said, If you are looking for a tripod, the Prologic Tri Sky Pod for the Trent, the 3 rod version, with the wider buzz bars, is a very solid and substantial bit of of kit. I use mine when I can't get away with 48inch Fox Storm Poles and korum butt cups. I've got Delkim txi-ds Alarms with the rx-d Receiver, because I've always used Delks and really like them.

Thanks Mark I’ll look into those alarms 👍🏻

Hi Jim

I was going to put 3x r3s and a receiver on the classified page in the next few days. I could sell you the receiver and one alarm if you’re interested

Trouble is Nash replaced them with the R3+ and R4. I picked my R3s up on eBay one at a time , there’s a few on there , but I would suppose the S5R would do the job just as well. No point in paying for expensive alarms with modes we’re never going to need

Jim unless there is no option with the ground go with bank sticks. 90% of the tripods on that river are nothing more than a fashion thing but in reality if you can splay rods individually into perfect positions and jam a couple of long big sticks in the ground that’s gotta be better than any tripod arrangement.

Tripods are for when your sat on rocks, concrete or gravel and you physically can’t do something decent with a stick.

To be honest I was thinking of bank sticks as they’ve got to be lighter and easier to carry and more versatile and at a plus point I’ve already got some that I can use for the butts 😁 one thing I’m not sure about is the angle of the bite alarms? Do or would you use an angle tilt adapter for the alarms? I’m not familiar with alarms having never used them before on the river 😊 Tia cheers mate

it’s a good question and it depends.
If I’ve got the available space in front of the rod position then no I won’t use an angle adapter I’ll just jam my sticks in at the appropriate angle
I use the big chunky NGT storm poles. They don’t move or flex for nothing.

If you need to use an angle adapter then make sure your sticks are jammed in hard or use a little stabilizer to stop them being able to twist round.

There’s gonna be occasions where you will need a pod but personally they don’t compare with the stability and flexibility of a pair of strong long storm poles which as I say are even better with a little stabilizer too
👍🏻

Agree with Rich - For the majority of situations Fox Powerpoints or the equally good NGT storm poles . . . I use the Preston angle adaptors for the alarm heads (Delkim TXI ds with snag ears) so you can angle them accordingly . . . small 10" Fox augered point sticks at the other end with butt cups (these also help with twist)

However - a lot of my Trent fishing is 'from the car / van boot' so a pod can be quicker on short sessions. IME the Korum affairs are a bit flimsy / wobbly for multiple heavy rods and reels. Albeit silly expensive (and a bit blingy) I use a Solar P1 Worldwide with the global extension kit (which is now unfortunately discontinued) The elongated front legs can crank the pod almost vertical if required and the adjustability on the locking collars is almost infinite. Adjustable buzz bars front and back mean I can splay the rods nicely and even use 3x (heresy!) if required . . . built like a tank and heavy stainless - always use a small bungee for security at the base. Zero twist and quick to assemble once you've got the knack . . .
