Value a rod please.

My step dad wants to sell one of his rods he doesn’t use and asked me tonight what it’s worth.
Most of the time I can answer this something close but with this I haven’t a clue.
it’s a TF gear 1.75 12foot barbel rod but it’s one of the discontinued posh ones that I believe was built on the free spirit blank or at least built on a very similar blank to the seeker s series . would be nice if that was confirmed by someone who knows more.
It’s also got the second top section with the spliced 4oz carbon quiver tip.
is it worth less holding the TFG badge
Is it worth more not been available any more under that badge.
it’s mint in original bag but I wouldn’t have a clue what it should fetch. Any of you guys know where to price point it?

Go onto Ebay enter the rods details in the search area,click search. If it comes up with any hits you will start to have some idea. Then click the box Advanced search and click on Completed listings. That will bring up any sold listings of the rods in the past,just check its the exact rod. Hopefully you should get some idea what they sell for. Ebay and paypal have charges so its usually good to take a bit off if selling privately.

I must admit it’s strange you read about it quite a lot regarding the older TFG’s yet never anything concrete on the fact.
I guess I just believed it to be true simply due to the fact they do look exactly like a seeker dimensionally as well as aesthetically. At £50 I’ll tell him I’d have it for that 🤣
It’s such a lovely little rod and I’m a sucker for a proper spliced quiver tip. Never really liked them push in type at all.

Richard pretty sure I've got this rod to amongst my collection!!
Are the eyes on the spliced tip very small? Green blank from memory?
 
I don’t know about the eyes but it’s certainly not a green blank.
it’s just like a free spirit blank. Matt, chequered , natural carbon, he sent me a message saying it’s an X3
 
I agree Richard, the old donkey tops are far far better, than push or screw tips. I have a cheap TFG Barbel rod I bought as a whim, the guide's seem a bit rough, but apart from that it would be great as a starter rod.

Ive got the Carp rod version of these and although they 'look' like a Free Spirit blank they most certainly are not.

The carp rods were never claimed to be
The alleged claim that they were on the same blank was around the river and stream x rods.
ive looked at them and compared them to my seekers And although confirmed they are not the same they look identical which is why I believed the claim.
 
I bought a 12ft/1.75lb barbel rod from TFG about 8 years ago. It looked superb in all respects ...whippings, rings, finish, and corks. But it was SO vile a thing that I gave it away unused. It was as if they couldn't make up their mind what action it was supposed to be, and ended up with a 'dead', and heavy with it, pretty stick. Nice to look at, but I reckon it was designed by committee, a committee of golfers.

The whole X range fell under this myth, so that included the carp and barbel rods.

They were designed by Simeon Bond, had fuji fittings and looked like Freespirit blanks so people wrongly assumed they were the same.
 
Never heard of the claim made towards the carp rods myself but lots of times on the specialist rods.
saying that I’ve got no interest in carp fishing so it’s quite possible I skipped past those debates
