Hi can anyone advise on a good padded unhooking mat to protect the beautiful Barbel? Some of the so call big names have very thin padding !
Thank you

Hi I’ve read the fast mat is not padded enough ? You can feel the ground ?
It’s plenty padded enough Keith the padding sits inside the thin shell and you certainly can’t feel the ground through it

I really depends on how much weight you put where. I’ve used Korum mats for years and years including the fast mats and I lay everything on them in absolute confidence

As Richard said. It is well padded, I actually sit on it (when it is dry of course) when I am travelling light.

I also have the drennan specimen mat, but it’s bulky and I don’t think it is thicker than Korum mat.

Thanks Richard just shows don’t believe what you read 👍

I have the Supalite mat, perfectly padded enough to protect a fish I've just stuck a hook through it's mouth and dragged out the water. Fast mat is nice to have the sides to stop fish sliding away and the padded base is even thicker.

4 years use now and still in perfect condition. No metal eyelets on it to rust up like on other mats.

Superlite Looks a nice mat I prefer the mats with sides so the fish didn’t roll out, but some quite pricey 👍

The only reservation about the fast mat is its size.
I don't think that it's big enough for the largest barbel, indeed I believe that Kings Weir have now introduced a minimum mat size of 100cm.
The fast mat is 85cm

I've had carp to 35lb in mine, it was a bit tight tho !! Plenty big enough for barbel imo.

85 cm is about 33 inches , the biggest barbel are more than that. I don't want to take a chance.
