Trotting for Chub on the Dove or Upper Trent

Oliver Harfield

Senior Member & Supporter
As a complete newbie to trotting for Chub, would any of the BMAA members be willing to recommend any suitable swims on the Upper Trent or Dove?

I have chest waders but a few of the bits I’ve tried are way too deep for that and bank access is limited.

Thank you

Cuttlebrook has some pegs that you could wade out a fair way. Decent access to most pegs as well. Lots of Maggot fish, but not many bigger Chub in my experience.

Hi Oliver

The section from Tutbury bridge up to the weir used to have some clonking chub in it, they might have just got even bigger. I never trotted from in the river but there were a few spots I always fancied trying.

Just have a walk along either river with a loaf and mash , great way to try every nook you fancy, theres big chub
along both rivers,
Regards
