Tripods

A Tripod is the next purchase in a very long line of kit to get, I quite like the look of the Korum 2, but reviews seem a little damning. The other choice is the TBR2 which looks OK. A lot of threads on the net are old and some of the tripods mentioned dont seem to be around anymore so I would be grateful if you guys would tell me what you are using please.

Cheers

Does anyone know of a lightweight tripod that might be suitable for use when wading? Its a real pain at times trying to get rests into the bedrock of the river (I like a front and back rest for when re-baiting, feeding etc whilst on the float or freelining/rolling meat) I could do with a tri-pod that just 'rests' on the bottom.
PS...sorry if I'm hijacking your post/question Mark, but it does further the 'tri-pod discussion' :)

Hi Terry
Not quite the answer to your question, but I picked up a cheap camera tripod from Lidl and converted it to take a long buzz bar, then knocked up two vertical extensions ( to gain enough reel clearance) ...works a treat!

To be honest, I often make do with a bait pouch and rest the butt on it when rebaiting. Also use a roving net, so no need to support that either.
I remember seeing Ray Walton with a bit of plastic waste pipe attached to his belt to support the rod when putting fresh bait on the hook.

Have to be careful that a great clump of cut weed doesn't carry a rest away ,...usually happens when playing a fish!

Hi Mark, I made my own, so not much use to you, but a mate has one of these, a lot cheaper than so many of the "coarse river tripods" They are for beach use,so are very robust, and fully adjustable for the height of the rod butt cups.Obviously they fold away, and the top and bottom cups either remove or swivel to be in line with the legs for transporting. There are a number of different attachments can be bought for the tripod as well, leg stays, bait trays that clip on the legs, etc etc.
The one below does not have the butt cups supplied though.

Here are a few more from the same supplier..

Hi Dave,...I figured you would have made yer own!:)
Re. the sea tripod,...I've used an Ian Gold match for umpteen years on the beach and it's a great bit of kit,...but light it ain't, not telescope either being made from alloy angle.
I assumed Terry was probably after something to support a rod whilst wading but was not actually going to fish from it. I used to use very long Thames banksticks but they are useless for gravel and rocks , one of the most simple robust tripods I've owned is an old steel telescopic Efgeeco jobby,...again not the lightest bit of kit though! The Lidl tripod is German made and was less than a tenner, ..probably no longer available though. Three bamboo canes would probably suffice!:D

Shakespeare salt tripod Terry......used it on the Trent and severn

I likes the shakespeare salt tripod.

Great tripod for sea and barbel fishing , adapted a flat alloy bar to attach two bite alarms to and will put original ones back on for cod session tomorrow night.

Thanks for the suggestions lads. I reckon that the shooting rest might well suffice for trotting. Never thought of using one of those! And it would go with the shooting stick I bought for wading :) ...and I'd fit in with the duck-slaughterers that line up on the bank opposite me when I'm peacefully trotting :(

I don't get to stressed about a few spent shotgun pellets from duck blasters raining down on me Terry, ..it's the high powered rifles used by the deer shooters that have an effective range of half a mile that make me contemplate ditching the camo gear and going for hi vizz!!
