From the EA Northumbria newsletter
Fish Stocking
3,000 dace and 3,000 chub were stocked into the R.Wear at Shincliffe Bridge in July.
We are planning to stock c.180lb of bream in the 2-4lb size early in 2011. These fish will be stocked upstream of Prebends Bridge and on the Chester Parks stretch upstream of Chester weir.
We have requested from our national fish farm in Calverton for 2,000 chub, 5,000 dace, 3,000 roach and 2,000 barbel for stocking in 2011.
May not be Trent quantities but the barbel are a real surpriseHistoric really, barbel have never been officially stocked into the Wear.
Also noted from the EA newsletter that 'COARSE' has been reinstated into the 'Wear Coarse Fishery Development Plan', it was dropped for 'political reasons' earlier in the year.
The EA has also created a fish refuge out of the Durham Grand Canyon, a 25acre hole that appeared next to the river in the July 2009 floods
