Transporting 3 piece rods with no butt ring - ideas

Looking for idea's

I have a couple of 3 peice rods that have no butt ring so when folded for transport the line becomes a pain in the a***

Anyone got any ideas on how to sort this?

I was considering using velcro around the top of the butt section but liable to move.

Line clips again similar issues.

steve, try some of those elasticated thingys the girls use on their pony tails ect they should do the job and you,ll get 1/2 a dozen for a quid or so;)

On my 15ft 3 piece rods i use chub tip tectors, all 3 sections fit a treat!!

Problem I have is retaining the line on the 1st butt section without the ring.
The bands are great for keeping the rods together.

I could try a loop under the band like when piking

I'll give it a try - 12 year old daughter - hair bands a plenty.

Do the Chub tectors have a velcro wrap I could hook the line behind?

It's not so much keepin the rods together it's the line from the spool does not have any support from the butt section, it goes from the reel to the mid section so can flap around a bit, end up with a cats cradle.

It's made me thing though - had a couple of ideas for some home made jobs :D

I understand what you are trying to do, the tip tectors come with velcro straps attached to the end which bind the rods together and they also come with a rod band so you could fold the line around that......maybe???:rolleyes:
You could always use good old rubber bands to hold the line inplace

Have the butt of the rod downwards and the second section in the same orientation. Put the line from the spool behind the line clip on the reel (this should stop any line coming off the spool). This should mean a very short section of the line coming from the clip to the bottom ring of the second section. Invert the top section of the rod and that should be the problem solved. Tip/butt protectors can be used in addition.

I like my multi-piece rods out of site in the car boot but was finding it as nearly quick to set up from scratch than leave set-up.

Cheers for the ideas

just pull a loop of line thru the band and then put the loop over the band,
you then have your line fixed solidly on the band or hair elastic;)

I use the smallest size black cable tie you can buy to attach an oval rig ring just above the handle round the blank (just where you'd find a hook keeper ring normally) then snip off the cable tie's tag end. You then have a DIY keeper ring.

One of the really annoying things about shelling out for a rod is when they don't whip a keeper ring on - must cost pence!

I understand exactly your problem Steve. I have a three piece rod that has no rings on the butt section and liking to keep my rods set up ready to go, it's a bit of pain. The conclusion I have come to is that to avoid a tangled mess of rod sections and line is that I need to get some two piece rods.
It's no help I know but it's what I'd rather do.
