Torrix or I-Power (compared to rods I currently use)?

Currently I own a Chimera 2 and a Peregrine GTI (both 12 ft - 1.75lb and very different rods), but feel its time to buy a matching pair of rods. I'm torn between the I-Power and Torrix 1.75lb TC. Comparing these to the rods I already own, the Chimera is great for chucking 4 oz feeders across rivers live the Wye, has a fantastic playing action, but under some circumstances it does seem a bit 'pokerish' i.e. close range work or on smaller rivers. The GTI on the other hand has a lovely soft tip and through action, down to a very steely butt section. I like to use the rod on the River Dove where I've had Barbel to over 13lb using it. My next rod needs to be somewhere between the 2 i.e. soft top, through action (more power than GTI) with plenty of reserve in the butt section. Based on this requirement I'd be interested in comments regarding the I-Power and Torrix?

Regards,

Neil

Contact Bob, he's best placed to advise you. Personally i love the i-powers but i've not used a torrix so can't comment on them.

I-Powers for me, but that's a personal thing !
Best to speak to Bob, he's the one best placed to advise......

As others have said, the i-power with the 2lb tip will cover both situations nicely.

I personally think the i-power is more 'through action' than the Torrix, which is why I prefer it. When working with Harrison on the i-power blank, the criteria was to achieve something between a GTI and a Chimera 2...

The Torrix has a lot of fans though.

Cheers,

Torrix 2lb TC is the rod you want, I sold my iPowers and consider the 2lb Torrix to be plenty soft enough. In fact it will do exactly what you describe. I also have a 1.75lb TC Peregrine Gti for comparison.

Hi , I have a pair of Bobs 2.00 lbs tc Torrix rods and i have to say they are pretty damn good , you are more than welcome to give them a waggle !

Neil,

I bought an i-Power off Conrad and compared it to his new Torrix and I personally prefer the i-power to the Torrix for the reason Andy stated - the i-power is more 'through action' than the Torrix.

But this is entirely personal preference. I know Conrad raves about the Torrix and he's very happy with them.

They're both excellent rods + blanks but you really ought to try them both out and see which one you personally prefer.

Hi Neil, if the budget allows add the 2lb tc as well, the rods will then cover all circumstances. You won't be disappointed with the Torrix.

Korum Neoteric even better!

Actually as an owner of 4 Torrix rods I recently had to use a pair of Korum Neoteric twin tips and they aren't bad at all. Let down slightly by the rod rings but at the price something of a bargain. I used them because a kind angler loaned me them on the bank because I forgot my rods - what a plonker! Me that is not the lendee.

Oh no not better than a Torrix, no way Jose. I think that Clive may have been trying to stir up a little controversy there Mark ;)

Just looking for a close season bite lol

Neil,
Why don't you give your old rods to a needy pensionner...;).
