I remember the original FS brown blanks of about 35 + years ago. The rods weighed a ton

I've had torrix since they came out. Fished various rivers with them, mainly the Smaller Kennet/Loddon and the Thames and over the
past dozen years or so after moving the Lower Severn, Wye Trent, Wark Avon.

The last 10 years added 2lb tops to the 1.75 rods not because they couldn't handle the water or the fish, but as security on the cast with heavier leads/feeders.

The 1.75 torrix in the interim managed a few carp over 35lb. About six I think. So no worries about the control elements in my opinion.

I choose 12ft because it helps a bit on the cast, just my view.

As regards a softish tip. I would say it's great for showing indications of fish activity, probably better than many hard carbon tips.


The rod suits my needs. Its no better probably than one that suits your needs.

I would say the torrix specialist line of rods definitely are tippy
Even the super sweet 11’s are faster actioned rods than your usual classic barbel rod which is generally a slower more through action.

Hang 4oz off a Torrix 1.75 11f then do the same with the 1.75 11ft GTI and you’ll see what I mean

Tippy doesn’t mean the butt section don’t bend.

Agree regarding the butt Richard but if you will look someone above posted " quite tippy with almost rigid butt sections."

Ha,.. certainly not for me anymore Damian,.. in fairness it’s designed for very light lines.
Here’s the auction site describing the action as ‘crisp’!
Not sure I’d concur with that description.

I might be in the minority but I prefer my 12' 1.75 torrix over the 11' 1.75, the 12' bends more freely which I like but not as much as the i-powers which I like even more !

I’d say you were in the majority Cliff.
Most barbel anglers want 12ft through actioned rods. It’s the “standard” or “norm” abit like 8-9 guides plus tip must be fitted or it’s not a barbel rod.
It’s me that’s in the minority much preferring 11ft slightly faster action rods fitted with 7 plus tip for barbel.

Second hand my custom builds are probably worth about 11p each because they go against all the rules as to what constitutes as a “barbel rod”

I'm looking to get either the torrix 12ft 1.75lb,2lb or the hi s 12ft 1.75lb, 2lb t.c for my barbel fishing . Would also be using them for my tench fishing aswell. Which would be the better rod for type of fishing Im looking to use them for.

I have 2 torrix 2lb tc if your nearby I live ribchester you could borrow one as I’m away 3rd January for 4 weeks
