Tight spigot...

Just picked a couple of new rods up, and the spigot on one is a little tight on the tip of the male section.

What would be the best way to remedy this?

rub a candle up and down the spigot and work the joint. They’ll soon break in.

For most spigots rub a soft lead pencil on the spigot and work it.
A carpenters pencil grade B works well.
