BBC One - The Great British Year

Hi Everyone,

Not sure if you’ve managed to catch any of these now showing on the BBC but if you get a chance to catch up on iPlayer then I heartily recommend them.

Firstly, the standard of photography is astounding but the closing section to these programs (‘the making of’) is fascinating to say the least.

Basically, the program has been made with help of hundreds of amateur filmmakers around the UK brought together with the help of Facebook/Twitter etc and shows them at work bringing the shots together that feature in the program. Time-lapse, underwater shots, camping out etc. The young lad who goes out each morning in a wetsuit to film fish using his underwater camera was superb. 'Fish Twitching he calls it:)

The shots last night of chub feeding on blackberries was astounding! Also the slowmo of a trout taking a fly was breathtaking.

Hi men,

Agreed Russ , fantastic stuff , including the grayling shots as well . Very close to a BBC special 1 hour time lapse made years ago ( 15 ish ) that ended in a winter scene at a church play " in the deep midwinter ". Classic program , I wrote to them to see if they would release / repeat it , to no avail , poss due to this coming along . Quality stuff!

Only seen the first one so far but have to agree it's quality stuff. The slow motion shots of the trout and grayling taking the mayflies was fantastic.
 
Yep, totally agree with all of the above.
The BBC always seem to excel at this type of programme. I've seen three, i thought there was one left (Autumn).
Maybe i missed it, hope not.....

if you look on the bbc i player its from 38 minutes 49 seconds onwards.
 
Well worth watching if you have the iplayer . Chub eating blackberrys and elderberrys .

I think last nights was the last one .

PS It was funny watching 2 hedgehogs trying to get it together :eek:
 
Some great stuff in there particularly for me was the Hobby catching dragonflies exeptional.

Hi men,

Brian , agreed . Funny , on the Wye last week we watched a dragon fly , which seemed a bit late in the year ?. Their change of direction , and stopping / accelerating power is awesome !.

Had loads of dragonflies on the pool I was fishing Tuesday, thought it seemed a bit late myself, then again I guess everything was a bit late this year.
 
Great series, I liked the fact that the guy leaving his place to go film the chub was wearing bright blue rubberised Wet suit as well you might to go underwater, but wore his Andy Capp cloth cap to go with it. Look out for this look from the style leaders on the bank next season.

Seriously good filming though well worth watching. Cheers.

Hi men,

Yep Brian , streaming it to my TV now . The geese coming in reminds me of a freezing day last winter when me and Sue traveled to the North Norfolk Coast to watch the pink footed geese coming in filling the sky !. The temps were silly cold , but there was loads of people making the effort to get to Holkham for the sight !
