The Fishing race

Yes I remember it, great fun they even fished someones garden pond. I wonder if you ring Terry Eustace at his shop in Birmingham whether he has a copy himself?

I had forgotten about Ricky the third brother who was a policeman. Trawling my memory but I think the police angling club had the Star Lane Fishery and you had to be connected to plod in some way to be able to fish there. It was a pretty good water and again I think part of the Fishing Race was done there.

All of this is not helping the original poster find a copy!

You can always PM me.

Going Brothers, they used to sell everything you could think of for rod building, to make any type of rod for every fish there was.
I has a lovely 13ft one piece beach caster which had a light weight metal butt, and that coupled with a mithchel 602 used to bring in some cod.

I also remember this series, especially the carp fishing episode in the womans back garden pond.
Colin, you've also reminded me that my old 602 is in the loft somewhere.Whilst on the subject of past fishing series, would anyone know if the Day Ticket series was ever available on VHS/DVD.

I used to work in the rod building dept. Sent out lots of stuff mail order including complete kits of blank, rings, thread, reel fittings, varnish, corks etc. All their made rods were hand finished including the varnish which I did.

When I came back to barbel fishing this season I started off using a rod I had built myself to go on a trip to The Royalty probably in 1975.

It may be one of those programmes that was erased from the tapes so they could be used again to film other footage!!!. This happened with most of the 'Parkinson' shows and is the reason why there isn't a full recording of 'Queen's first appearance on TOTP performing Seven Seas of Rhye' (the one on You Tube isn't!). Unless someone has a Betamax copy in their attic. If so, it'll be worth a fortune!

According to Wikipaedia (which I realise is not always reliable) Sony launched Betamax in 1975 and JVC launched VHS in 1977. This makes it fairly unlikely there were many home recordings made at the time.

Hi again John,
i am sorry to divert away from the post, but i promise this is the last time.
Can you remember Chris Ward who done some work for Goings, he done some bait digging and rod repairs, he was also a policeman.
He now lives at Waterlooville in Hampshire and is a first class rod maker, and has a good website.
