The Danger of De-icing Products to our Waterways

Thousands of tons of de-icing products are used on roads, footpaths and runways each year. Where does much of it end up? In our streams, rivers, canals and stillwaters. The trend to use additives in road salt has clear environmental impact – have a look at the tables within the Pollution Prevention Technical Information note from the Environment Agency which is available HERE.

If you see a spill or any type of product loss to the environment, call the Environment Agency immediately on their free incident hotline number 0800 80 70 60 (this number is on your rod licence).
