Thames at Datchet

Hi all...

I’m thinking of having a few sessions on the Thames at Datchet (Civil Service stretch). I’m not expecting easy fishing by any means but is it a secure/safe area to fish especially on overnight visits. I’m not planning a huge amount of visits but it is just about doable in terms of distance from home… unfortunately I live in quite a barbel barren area!

Please PM me if you would rather not go too public on any info. I’m not after what swim, what rig or anything like that? More of a general what to expect from the overall area/fishery.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

I used to live in Datchet - fished the stretch once and, although I liked it aesthetically, the broken glass in the car park and abundance of our travelling friends walking around left me looking over my shoulder all the time and I didn't enjoy the experience so never returned.

Paul, if you want to fish in that area I'd drive a couple of miles further and fish a Windsor Racecourse. It's clean, safe and probably more productive than Datchet although nothing like it used to be.
