Test curve popularity.

1.75 Lb might be the most popular across all the range of rivers, but if you were to break it down to big and small rivers there would be a split of 2 LB for bigger rivers & 1.75 Lb for smaller ones. Having said that it's down to personal preference. on the Middle Trent I prefer 2 Lb and my friend prefers 1.75 Lb. no right or wrong just individual choice.

Get a daiwa basia 2.25 covers you for both

Not familiar with the Basia, is there that much of a difference between my Cadence 12Ft 2 Lb and the Basia 2.25 Lb to warrant buying them would you say ?
Looking at the price of the cadence it seems more comparable with the powermesh. Different tc's though apart from the 1.75.

For many years I have used a Harrison s/u Avon 1lb 6oz tc rod for most of my Barbel fishing on the Stour and Avon. This is close range fishing with few snags. I now use a Harrison Chimera no. 1 in 1 1/2 lb tc and find it excellent for this type of fishing. On the middle Severn I use 1 3/4lb tc's though I've caught Barbel on my lighter rods there when fishing close in. In the early 1980s I used a Terry Eustace 1lb 2oz Avon abd have caught plenty of Barbel on it to 12 1/2lb.

I would say with the popularity around fishing the bigger far more productive rivers like the Severn, tidal/middle Trent, wye and Yorkshire Ouse, the most popular test curve nowadays would be 2lb plus.

I've not come across the Interceptor Light Damian? I thought they only did them in 1.10lb (Med range) and 1.75 (Long range)? The 1.75 is one of my all time favourite rods.
It may indeed be the 1lb10oz then Joe. They were called the 'light' but perhaps it was the 'lighter'. Lovely rods but they're not Kev Baines' 3 piece specialists!

Let's have another poll

Results would be different now I’d guess. A lot of smaller rivers are struggling, whereas the middle/tidal Trent, Severn etc will no doubt see TC’s rising. 1.75’s I use on my local river (Yorkshire rother) wouldn’t even touch the sides on the tidal Trent. Last time out I used those rods (Fox duo lite) with the 2.25tc tips and felt woefully undergunned as I chose a swim with a 50 yard cast that needed 8oz to hold bottom. Leaving my 2.75 Hi S heavy waters at home was a mistake I won’t make again - that was in August btw!

I would agree with the lighter rods as my preferred rods. however, as most of my fishing is done at close range on smaller rivers, my choice of the Harrison Chimera 1.4lb Avon would be out gunned on a ragging Trent. As someone has said, it is personal preference. What you feel most comfortable using.
