Tench/light barbel rod

I am sure the old Barbel Tamer has a screw fitting on the tip ring.
 
I have a pair of old 11ft Daiwa powermesh avons and they are pretty much ideal for swingtip fishing for tench or light barbel work. I found a pair on ebay. They do come up from time to time. Lovely blank. A screwfit reel seat would make them perfect and I might get round to that one day.
 
Thats the thing Dave, I still have one in the garage somewhere, bought in around 1978, you have saved me digging it out for a photo shoot.........
 
yep, i used 1 only once, i didn't like them over a normal swingtip to be honest.

That was the Sidewinder, made by the same company that make Polaris floats. Used to get one free with a pack of the floats if I remember correctly, mine's in the garage box somewhere, only ever used it in Ireland.
 
Chris -I use bite alarms with my barbel rods for tench. I've had some real screaming runs using method feeder techniques. It's nice relaxing fishing - until they both go off at once which happened a few times last year. It is also the perfect antidote to all that tip watching.

Geoff,
I did exactly this the last time out. Just used the 1.5lb avon tops of my X-Flites with bobbins and alarms. I've found that the water I was targetting has a few more big carp than I anticipated so I don't really want to go much lighter anyway. In fact I will probably break out my old light carp rods to fish it next time. I still fancy adding a couple of the old Daiwa 1 1/4lb Avons to my armoury if I ever manage to snag some.;):D
While there wasn't too much danger of losing it, a spirited 11lb carp put up a fair old showing on the 1.5lb rods. I just wish I could find a local water with big tench and bream and no/very few carp.

Just over a year on and I've finally managed to snag a pair of barely used Powermesh Specialist Avons. Shame I'd bought the Fox Duo-Lite Avons not that long ago, oh well!;):D:)

Do you ever stop buying tackle;)
I read about your wish for a swingtip rod, i have a custom built 9' 1.25tc swingtip rod in the loft that my father had made for bream fishing on the canal, I think i should go up and fetch it down and give it a bash:D
