Tench 2025

My effort Monday.

However a good pal managed an incredible 12.10 after helping out at the latest Tench Championship!!

IF it’s the same fish/mate I’m thinking of Graham the fish was not only a big 12 it was float caught 👍
Yes.
He popped around to see me as having long quiet time and we had a nice chat before catching the fish. Not that I gave him any advice

Known him for over 25 years as he attended a few BFW charity Fish Ins I organised. You'll find his photo in one of the write ups on here if you look at articles pages

Right on the look out for a good mature day ticket tench fishery in the south (I'm based in Wiltshire but can travel ) that isn't match orientated and extremely busy and also a bit of solitude would be nice. Tough ask I know and I don't mind working for fish.

A few CWP suggestions:

Join South Cerney AC - several waters. Day membership £120 a year (or a handful of days at Linear). Pensioner £90.

Horseshoe lake (carp society membership required, then £1.25 per hour) But only shop hours - so opens at 9am.

Bradley’s - £15 a day. Tickets from Tackleden South Cerney.

Claydon pike (nr Lechlade); day tickets on the bank (I think).

Claydon is £10.00 per day. Leave the money in an envelope in the hut. Very weedy in the summer and a lot of crayfish in there. There are some big Perch to over 4lb, Pike to over 20lb and Tench to 9Ib. It is not a big lake and the last time I went you could only fish about 8 swims and you were not allowed on the far bank.

But you can book the basic lodge for a couple of overnighter in the best swims.

And just to clarify if not clear, Horseshoe can be fished for a few overnighters once you have purchased the hours you want.

Horcott have a Tench lake that can be ok someday although heavy weed limits the swims available.
The main Carp lake has done a few doubles this year, and the odd multiple fish capture from certain swims.

A 4:30am start was rewarded last week at a club venue.

I'd already had three blanks but witnessed spasmodic fizzing on each occasion. However, fizzing started here and there about two hours after daylight but not over my worm based groundbait laced with some dead reds.

In an attempt to avoid the small rudd and perch, I fished a big lob "kebab" (eventually scaled up to 6 halves) under a loaded peacock waggler. Two very fine tench took a liking to that - 6:13 & 7:02.

Went back for another try yesterday, this time for a early evening into dark session. Same sort of scenario, occasional fizzing from 8pm, nowhere near my groundbait, fished till 9:40pm and blanked.
