Tench 2023

Only my third session after Tinca today, arrived at 06.30 baited up lightly at 08.45 had a very welcome 6lb 11oz male on fake corn tipped with maggots via a maggot feeder on a short hooklength then had another two fish to worm kebab followed by another fish to the fake corn rig all the last fish females to 5:11oz. I will now be hanging up the Tinca rods until March.

Lots of Emperor Dragonflies around some still mating presume its because the weather is mild.

Birds of the day, young Sparrowhawk, a kronking Raven and my good lady for putting me together a great picnic :)

Well done Tony 👍

My sporadic tenching "campaign" moved to different venues after some plump little mirrors were stocked by the club into the middle pond of my favourite local complex. Of course a few of those carp soon found their way to the lower pond and made my preferred approach of late afternoons into evening on the pole at around 10mtrs impractical and redundant!

The chosen alternatives were both bigger mature gravel pits, one held plenty of carp from mid teens to 30's, the other held less carp but very much heavier and more sort after by those that like that sort of thing. More importantly both were home to a reasonable head of quality tench. The leisurely afternoon arrivals were replaced by dawn starts and occasional all night sessions sat behind the rod pod and buzzers.

So far the tench have almost ignored me with just the one landed albeit foulhooked plus two other encounters which failed to end with a tench in the net.

However, no actual blanks were recorded as quite a few carp, including a couple of 20's, took a liking to the worm kebab rigs + dead reds and other variations. Swapping to PVA bags with assorted contents also proved effective for even more carp!

I might have a couple more sessions left in me (the rivers are beginning to call me louder and louder). If not, the tench will have to wait until next Spring and Summer.
